Fun Facts About St. Patrick's Day
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
We know that St. Patrick lived about 1500 years ago. He was one of Ireland's most famous inhabitants. The first St. Patrick's Day was held in Boston in 1737 hosted by the Charitable Irish Society of Boston. Every year since 1962, the Chicago River has been dyed green in celebration of St. Patty's Day. The celebration held in Dublin each year is attended by more than a million people.
Here in Pittsburgh like most areas of the country unfortunately our parade was cancelled this year. Most families in Ireland observe St. Patrick's Day by attending church in the morning and celebrating afterwards with parades/feasting. Here in the US, it is similar except the focus is less on church and more on drinking/eating/shenanigans.
