Full Proof Strategies to Crack Internships

Full Proof Strategies to Crack Internships

Part 1 - Optimize

Resume

Your resume should be your first focus item. Optimize it with relevant keywords. Use metrics to show the impact of your work. If you don’t have work experience, showcase it through your projects. Share your experiences in STAR format. Keep it 1-Page and ATS compliant. Keep updating your resume regularly. Also, don’t forget to tweak the resume as per the job description and align it with respect to your experience.

LinkedIn

Did you know that lot of job seekers get hired through LinkedIn even without applying? That’s the power of LinkedIn. So don’t forget to optimize your LinkedIn on a regular basis. Please check out my earlier newsletter which I shared on optimizing LinkedIn

Part 2 – Network

Alumni

Start networking with alumni from your school. Build a rapport and then send a short pitch regarding the job you want to get referred to. Be specific in your approach/pitch by including important details like Job ID, resume, etc. Don’t overwhelm them. Just keep it short and crisp.

Recruiters and Hiring Managers

Build a good template/pitch to reach out to hiring managers. Don’t forget to apply the same formula of building rapport first and only then asking for a referral

Part 3 – Prepare

Apply Early

Be proactive while applying. This could enhance the chances for a resume to be selected. So don’t be too late while applying.

Common Behavioral Questions

Build a word doc with your experience stories in STAR format. Make sure to practice all the common behavioral questions. Always be Interview ready.

Mock Interviews

Once you are prepared with common behavioral questions, make sure you take a mock interview. Ask anyone from your friends, peers circle whomever you feel comfortable taking the mock interview with to conduct one and give proper feedback. Work on the feedback and keep practicing until you are confident enough.

Research on Glassdoor

Start researching on Glassdoor or similar websites, interview patterns, and commonly asked interview questions to better understand the process and start preparing those. This will give you a slight edge over others with a better preparation
