Full plate? Pick low-hanging fruit

EVENTS? ?|? ?CURRENT ACTION PLAN? ?|? ?RESOURCES? ?|? ?GO TO SLACK?

This one will be short, sweet, and jam-packed as I try my hand at these food puns.

They say variety is the spice of life, so in addition to our five featured Action Playbooks this month, there are a few other ways to jump in: volunteer roles, an open call for stories, and saying 'yes!' to a plan to do more than vote this election.?Next week is a rest week, so this is a plum time to get in on the action.

If your plate is full right now, pick the low-hanging fruit or carve out an hour a few weeks from now. While we aim for consistent, sustained engagement, our invitation is to show up for climate advocacy as you are, when you can. The Climate Changemakers promise is that the time spent in Hours of Action and with Action Playbooks will be productive, not performative. Both powerful and a piece of cake.

What's up next, in a nutshell?

  • This week:?3?virtual?events and 2?in-person events – RSVP!
  • Next week:?Rest week! No events and our staff team will be closing the organization's (virtual)?office as well. Enjoy the 4th of July!
  • July 8-12: Hours of Action resume for the final week on Food Waste.
  • July 15th: Kickoff Party for phase 1 of our elections effort. (Policy starts at the polls, team!)

We're focused. Olive of this is strategic because nothing beets?real, systems-level progress.

Proud to get to do this together, changemakers.

SUMMER ACTION PLAN???? Reduce U.S. Food Waste

Landfills are a sneaky leading source of methane emissions. So much so, that Project Drawdown considers reducing food waste the #1 climate solution in a 2?C warming-limit scenario. Smart, scalable policy solutions, like?food diversion and composting, exist right now and should be incentivized. It’s time for policymakers to act! ?

ONE WAY TO BREAK BREAD... ?? Frame it as: Environmentalism

Composting embodies the principles of waste minimization, regenerative resources, and environmental stewardship central to a more circular (sustainable) economy. It offers an alternative to the dominant economic model of overconsumption and helps sustainably close the loop of product life cycles.

For more ways to frame food waste, read the Issue Briefing.

GOOD CLIMATE NEWS?????? Youth activists win laser-focused?climate settlement

A historic legal settlement won last week by 13 youth activists, mostly Indigenous, mandates that all Hawaii transportation—ground, sea, and air among all islands—be zero-emissions by 2045! “It’s written down, it’s enforceable, and that makes all the difference between a promise and actual implementation,” said Denise Antolini, law professor. This is a significant win, with noteworthy cooperation,?worth reading about!
