Full Circles
“Turn around, turn around, turn around
And you may come full circle
And be new here again”
Gil Scott Heron.
2020 has been the year of “Let Russ cook” (Seahawks, NFL, look it up) and obviously a few other things. IMAGO will close this one out in a strong position with a new identity & renewed direction and a new digital platform, “The Game”
Thank you to Markus & his fantastic team for letting me share the kitchen for a little while.
“An identity would seem to be arrived at by the way in which the person faces and uses his experience.”
James Baldwin.
Deep dives into brand identity & site revamps are not in & of themselves interesting. Nothing about that here. What we have done here is something akin to this Baldwin quote. Smiled at who we are and tried to understand what that looks like applied to new businesses areas. Tried to apply that to what we feel people want & who we think we can help.
I hope you can see the work. I would like to think that these words can be two things.
#1. An acknowledgement of this IMAGO group. We have here a “Small Giant” and a team that has got on with helping people for twenty years. In a space with its cynics throwing good cynical money after bad trying & failing to find that elusive product market fit, they know who they are and they have their overwhelming fit. Empty vessels and all that.
A calling card if you will. IMAGO is a factor. A leading global agency. You’ll see them around. Look again if you need to.
#2. A little bit of a call to action.
The things that interest me right now: In a world of too many images what does getting the right content to world media look like? What can be done with access & voice? What more can we do to play around with these ideas of “editorial” & “creative” content? To trojan-horse amazing photography into major campaigns? To provide some ideas to brands that are not just churn & fodder & muzak. How can we contribute to this explosion in really decent content being generated by the sports industry & sports media? How can we come together & share voices and causes across media, sport & photography?
“To make an end is to make a beginning”
TS Eliot.
If you are working in editorial and want to cut through all the noise and incumbency maybe come take a look.
If you are working in creative and need an intelligent conversation on your content calendar where you are not “Lead Gen” in a playbook straight out of 2012, maybe come take a look. Repeat after me, the content industry is not SaaS. The content industry. Is not. SaaS.
If you work in sports and need a touch of resource or inspiration, maybe come take a look. If you are a creator or a guardian of content & need a partner that celebrates you, maybe come take a look. If you are an emerging photographer that despises image factories and knows that free doesn’t pay bills, maybe come take a look.
That's the “us” that we need to look after. Want to help.
My 4 year old boy is learning about growing pumpkins.
You can look at everything in life as a funnel but with that you are really looking to take out, not put in.
Think of things, think of the good brands as the little seeds. You might pollinate someplace different but “you” is always a version of “you”. Full circles.
Importantly, You get what you give.
