Full circle

I had the honor of recently attending an author event in New York City hosted by Rich Christiansen to celebrate the launch of his book "Blindsighted."

It was special for me to see Rich so comfortable talking about his story. It wasn't always that way.

When Isabella Talbott and I began working with Rich two-plus years ago, he was stuck. He had spent years working on the book himself but needed help bringing the story together.

There were areas of the story he wasn't ready to discuss, even during a private conversation. His healing journey was still underway.

But Rich kept at it, week by week. His wife Gaye provided a crucial support role, too.

The deeper we got with the story and the more we worked on it, the lighter everything became for him.

It was amazing to witness Rich on the opposite side of it all, signing copies of the book that he had envisioned years earlier, back when the book was represented by a sea of Post-It notes on his office wall.

As a ghostwriter, I often find myself parachuting into people's lives at specific moments and helping them along, then six or twelve months later a book appears. I don't often get to witness the byproducts of the transformation firsthand.

It was so special being able to celebrate this book—and with it, Rich's transformation journey of owning his story.

A different book I worked on was recently released, too, and it's been special to watch that author's journey forward to authorship. It was a story they always wanted to share; and now, after years of effort and patience, they finally are.

These moments remind me of the goal of ghostwriting and the transformation it can provide. It can be so freeing and empowering to finally tell your story!

with that "Parachute into a specific time" lens, what are your thoughts on "when" a person should consider writing a book?
