What Are Fugitive Emissions?
Fugitive emissions are those emissions that escape from a process, system, or facility without passing through a designated emission control device. Fugitive emissions are a significant environmental concern in today's industrialized world. While fugitive emissions might not be clearly visible, they have serious implications for both the environment and human health.?
These emissions consist of the unintended release of gases or vapors into the atmosphere, often occurring during the production, transportation, or storage of various substances.
Sources and Causes of Fugitive Emissions:
Understanding the sources and causes of fugitive emissions is essential for developing effective mitigation strategies. Here are some common sources and causes:
2. Chemical and Petrochemical Industry:
3. Manufacturing and Processing:

To address fugitive emissions effectively, it is crucial to measure and monitor them accurately. This involves various techniques, such as:
Mitigation and Control Strategies:
To reduce fugitive emissions, industries and facilities can implement various mitigation and control strategies:
Conclusion:
Fugitive emissions represent a significant environmental challenge, with far-reaching consequences for air quality, climate change, and ecosystems. It is imperative for industries and governments to work collaboratively to control these emissions. By implementing stringent regulations, adopting advanced technologies, and fostering public awareness, we can mitigate the impact of fugitive emissions and move toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.

1 年Important topic Amlan Shome - thanks for sharing. Some companies are taking action on fugitive methane emissions, specifically within the oil and natural gas industry. By deploying ground-up OGI technologies visibility into fugitive emissions is higher than before and importantly, driving action increasingly promptly. This is a step in the right direction given methane's increased impact relative to CO2 in the short term on climate change and the pressing need for action given the Paris goals

1 年If emissions are calculated by applying emission factors on consumption of energy, do fugitive emissions still escape the calculation ? Or do we have a different calculation approach for these ? Any idea

1 年While many will not think of 5% like a big deal but given that the fugitives are more potent in carbon equivalent ... sometimes even in multiple of thousands makes even a 1% of it many fold concerning. I am not sure if there is platform or service already built around the accounting of these fugitives? Are there any Amlan?
