Fuentes Fridays Edition #0002
What I’m Hearing From Sales Leaders/Professionals
Lots of organizations are struggling with the top of the funnel. Of the traditional channels, the phone works the best. However, I am challenging my clients to become more creative and personal in their outbound approach to supplement their traditional efforts. Also, I have seen strong opportunity generation in the first quarter from conferences. I advise all my clients to run pre-, in-, and post-conference campaigns; be ready with the small talk; and not be afraid to meet new people. Yes, I know it sounds silly, but too often people go to conferences to catch up with old friends, not generate new business.
What Made Me Laugh
Ahhhh, grammar tweets are always good for a laugh!
This Week’s 40/20
For every 40 hours of work, I believe you should spend 20 (additional) hours mastering your craft. This is how I spent some of my 20 hours this week.
I have been really focused on the idea that life is physics. I am currently reading a lot of Ed Latimore's Stoic Street Smarts. This past week, he discussed the concept of humans being anti-fragile. Simply put, we are all capable of coming back after a setback. In fact, we have been designed to overcome stress and become more resilient and strong. I like this concept because it gives me hope.

Potpourri for 800
In Jeopardy!, potpourri is a category that covers a variety of topics. For Fuentes Fridays, it’s a category where I may cover anything from someone interesting I met to my favorite new restaurant. Whether or not it's related to sales, my hope is that it will bring you value.
Did you know the pope was a bouncer before becoming a priest? Where you start isn't where you end. It also reminds me of that great bit about one-upping parents by Jim Gaffigan—"What's your son do? Oh, he is a doctor. Well, mine’s the Pope."
Quote for My Son
Every day, I give my son a quote to help him learn and not repeat the same mistakes I made in my youth. This was my favorite from this past week:
“Greatness is earned, not given. It's choosing perseverance over procrastination, effort over ease, and discipline over distraction. Most want it. Few work for it. The choice is yours.” - N/A
