Hi FemTech Lab pack, ?

?? There are?3 reasons why the UK is the hottest country in Europe for FemTech innovation. ?

1???Women’s Health is already in the spotlight.

The UK government is investing £25 million in women’s health hubs, as part of the country’s first-ever Strategy for Women’s Health for England. This top-down focus on Women’s Health & Wellness is already starting to inspire change in the UK's biggest consumer-facing and retail brands, like supermarkets. ?

2???Female consumers in the UK demand better Health & Wellness solutions.

100,000 women answered an open call from the UK government raising their voices to ASK for better health support. The top 5 areas UK women wanted better public health services around were:

  • Gynaecological conditions (63%)
  • Fertility, pregnancy, pregnancy loss and postnatal support (55%)
  • The menopause (48%)
  • Menstrual health (47%)
  • Mental health (39%) ?

3???The UK startup ecosystem is world-leading.

As a country, it ranks 2nd globally. Its capital city, London, is home to the third-strongest startup scene in the world (San Fran and New York are 1 + 2).

The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) is?one of 4 venture capital schemes?available to founders in the UK and founders can benefit from a well-connected and supportive network of fellow entrepreneurs, VCs, and other backers.

The UK is also a front-runner in terms of FemTech investment, with £355 million raised in the last 5 years?according to a recent Sie Ventures report. No wonder we’re seeing FemTech unicorns like Elvie founded here, plus ground-breaking, taboo-shattering solutions such as Jude .

Better still, momentum is accelerating in the UK and beyond.

The FemTech Lab community (you!) has grown to over 30K FemTech allies: doctors, patients, innovators, change-makers and investors all passionate about change for Women’s health.

This is how change happens! ??

FEMTECH LAB ALUMNI NEWS

???Congratulations to OVUM from the Autumn 2023 FemTech Lab accelerator!

You can now buy OVUM’s fully recyclable, Early Detection pregnancy tests in a major UK supermarket (Sainsbury's). Fully recyclable tests have never been on sale in the UK before —?so this is a FIRST! ??

Not only are the tests more sustainable but they’re also highly sensitive. Ideal for women and couples who are actively trying to get pregnant.

FemTech Lab alum and Founder/CEO of OVUM, Jenny Wordsworth , has said:

“Sainsbury’s belief in our product resonates with the wider trying-to-conceive community and that people are becoming more aware of the environmental impact of their products. This marks another step to ensuring no more used pregnancy tests end up in landfill. This product is destined to become a best-in-class and a clear disruptor brand.”
