The FTC Awakens in the Fight for Pharmacy Competition: Quotes

Quotes from the podcast episode The FTC Awakens in the Fight for Pharmacy Competition with Doug Hoey, National Community Pharmacists Association:

"It's heartening to see the FTC interested."

"Their job is to protect and preserve competition and to protect consumers."

"It's off to a wonderful start."

"The optics on this were tremendous."

"To have the courage to question what's been the conventional wisdom for decades pretty gutsy."

“You almost don't have time not to do it. You've got to do it because it's such an oversized influence on your practice.”

“We're the ones who are the experts in drug therapy. And so how do you use these? Newfangled complex therapies that are expensive and you want to make sure you get them right? Well, who better than the pharmacist?”

“Love of country runs through not just small town, but just very patriotic. I'm speaking generically.”

“If you look at pizza places in town, some you go sit down there, some you take out the pizza, some get delivery and this and that. It's like they can price it accordingly for who they're trying to attract and so on.”

“Once we have a level playing field, independent pharmacies don't need any help. We just need help to get to a level playing field and then we can compete all day long and more than hold our own.”

One of my favorite episodes to date. I always try to remain hopeful about the future of independent pharmacies, but this interview with Doug Hoey is reinvigorating and does an amazing job of explaining the history of how the PBM industry became such a behemoth. Thanks Mike!
