Frustrations of Weight Loss
Everyone knows what their healthy weight should be, but after gently reminding the patients about how great losing some weight will be, the conversation ends. They leave without knowing more about healthy eating and exercise. A few months later, they come back heavier or worse, with more problems because of the fad diets they have been on. The vicious cycle continues.
We see all the latest Keto diets, Atkins or Cleanse Diet being promoted by celebrities touting quick weight loss. What we want for our patients is a long-term lifestyle change. Everyone is tired of the weight bouncing like a yoyo, not to mention the effects of unhealthy eating.
When a patient comes to the pharmacy to ask for weight loss advice, because: “my doctor tells me I should lose some weight,” most of them don’t really know how. While I could suggest very low-calorie diets like Optimist, it is not a long-term solution. Most look unsure if that is what their doctors want them to do.
Wouldn’t it be great if they have some guidelines? Some tips to start off with. Suggestions such as some minor changes to their eating habits. Supporting patients when they need it most: when they are trying to improve their lives. Stop them from following weird diets that promise weight loss, but deliver nothing but more health problems down the line. ?
