Front-end Surveys
The success of a drying regime is directly proportional to the quality of the initial inspection (or ‘front-end’ survey).
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that all good projects require a well thought out plan and without a plan, the project will not be good.
It’s easy to say this, but the drying contractor is rarely given enough time to do a decent survey and often, is poorly recompensed for it too.
So how does this promote the quality we strive to achieve?
The key is in understanding building construction; knowing how a property is assembled goes some way to explaining where water may be trapped within and thus how we might remove it.
And with this knowledge, not only is half the survey done, but it answers the policyholder’s question “what qualifies you to dry my house”
We live in houses that date from the 1200’s to modern day and are constructed from materials ranging from mud and straw to concrete composites, plastics and foam and clearly, they all respond very differently when water is added to the mix. (as drying contractors, we should know this).
If materials like ‘clay lump’, ‘Cob (or Clom)’, or Bungaroosh are unknown then surely, we have an obligation to learn more about the construction before suggesting we can dry it!
