From zero to Kubernetes
Feel like you need to get your head around Kubernetes now that Docker "blessed" it as the industry-standard container orchestrator?
Today, at DockerCon EU, Docker, Inc. announced native support for Kubernetes in the next version of Docker Enterprise Edition. To cut a long story short, this paints a very clear picture of the future where Kubernetes is the industry-standard container orchestrator.
So we better get learning it!
To help with that, I've got a Kubernetes book and a Kubernetes video course. Both of which are way more important today than they were yesterday!
What does this mean for Docker, Inc.?
Personal opinion here (this is all personal opinion)... but Docker seem to be focussing on Docker EE and bring value-adds to the higher levels of the stack. Of course they're still massively involved in the low-level stuff, and of course they'll continue to support Swarm. But they see the value in the higher layers and in building a complete stack that is enterprise-grade.
Is this is a good move for Docker, Inc.?
I think so. The industry had already chosen Kubernetes as the de-facto orchestrator. There was no use fighting it. Also.... Docker realised a long time ago that there was no viable business model in creating differentiation at the lower layers.
Either way, check out my Kubernetes book and video course. They've both had stellar reviews, and they'll get you up-to-speed fast!
