When sitting down to write this article I had a bit of writer’s block. As I was pondering where to start, it dawned on me to ask ChatGPT to help. So I asked the following question: “I am writing an article about ChatGPT but I have writer's block. Please write me a catchy introduction?” and voila, within seconds my introduction was written and here it is!
‘Imagine having a conversation with an artificial intelligence that can answer almost any question you have, generate creative ideas, and even write poetry. That's the power of ChatGPT, a state-of-the-art language model that uses deep learning algorithms to understand and respond to human language. Whether you're looking for a friendly chat or a source of knowledge, ChatGPT is always ready to engage and surprise you with its abilities. In this article, we'll explore the fascinating world of ChatGPT and discover how it's changing the way we interact with technology and each other.’
The rest of this article was written by me based on my own research - I promise.
For those not in the know yet, ChatGPT is an artificially intelligent chatbot system, available to all and currently still free, which you can access by registering on the OpenAI website. Once registered, you can ask the system any question and it will provide the answer.?
The platform has taken the world by storm with people the world over using ChatGPT to help them write essays, cover letters and emails, as well as to write code and excel formulas. Others have taken it even further and are using it as a source of news, and to help them write poetry and music lyrics.
How does it work?
ChatGPT sources its information from several terabytes of data across the internet, making it a rich repository of knowledge on just about anything.
I like the explanation by plagiarism checker tool Scribbr which defines ChatGPT as an AI language model which aims to create fluent and convincing responses to your inputs. It was trained on a lot of text from a wide variety of sources, allowing it to discuss all sorts of topics. But it doesn’t generate its answers by looking for the information in a database. Rather, it draws on patterns it learned in its training.
For example, a good way to think about it is that when you ask ChatGPT to tell you about digital marketing trends, it doesn’t think “What do I know about digital marketing trends?” but rather “What do statements about digital marketing trends normally look like?” Its answers are based more on patterns than on facts, and it usually can’t cite a source for a specific piece of information.
Can it be trusted?
ChatGPT - where the GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer - is a wonderful resource for inspiration and content but no, it cannot be trusted fully as it does sometimes give incorrect information.
As a work in progress, whose answers are limited to the data it was trained on and which only goes up to 2021, it does sometimes give incorrect answers which is why you have to fact check on other sources. These incorrect answers are called hallucinations and happen when it provides you with content that is stylistically correct but factually wrong. The tool itself says it may occasionally generate incorrect information and that it has limited knowledge of the world and events after 2021.
How is ChatGPT being used to increase business productivity?
The Internet is a wealth of information on how people are taking advantage of the tool’s capabilities. I found some great articles on Builtin, Wordstream, Digiday, erintegration and makeuseof which share how people are saving time and effort and even boosting productivity. I summarise some of the best ways below:
ChatGPT is essentially a copywriter on your computer. Coming up with consistently solid topic ideas that align with one’s brand can be challenging but in a matter of seconds, ChatGPT can help you generate content for newsletters, social media posts, marketing emails, product descriptions, image captions, sales and deal alerts, promotional emails and more. And once it has written the content, it can translate the text into several different languages. The system is also fairly useful in suggesting eye-catching subject lines which is key to helping your email stand out in an inbox that receives hundreds of other emails on a regular basis.
Thanks to its capability to develop complete blocks of functional code (in many different languages) on its own, as well as to translate code from one language to another, coders are using ChatGPT to save a lot of time and effort and can also look to ChatGPT for advice on specific coding-related questions.?

Chat GPT is being used to generate surveys to help companies get to know their audience and customers and to collect customer feedback. ChatGPT chatbots are also being used to handle customer queries and complaints in a timely and efficient manner and to provide instant responses to frequently asked questions, freeing up staff time to focus on more complex customer inquiries. These chatbots can also help businesses generate leads and increase sales by engaging with customers and providing them with personalized recommendations.
A ChatGPT chatbot can assist with the recruitment process by automating tasks such as screening resumes and scheduling interviews. This can save HR staff time and increase the efficiency of the recruitment process. Chatbots can also provide employees with quick answers to HR-related questions, such as benefits and policies.?
By using chatbots, operations and logistics teams can automate routine tasks, such as order processing and tracking, and provide real-time updates to customers. This can help businesses streamline their operations and reduce manual errors, leading to improved productivity and customer satisfaction.
How can ChatGPT help me?
You can ask ChatGPT to help you improve your resume and write you cover letters when you are job-hunting.? Thanks to its natural language processing capabilities, ChatGPT can take an existing piece of text and make improvements on it. Practice your interview skills, by asking ChatGPT to generate anything from hypothetical questions to intelligent responses to those questions.?
ChatGPT excels when it comes to explaining complex topics in easy to understand terms. This capability can be useful in all kinds of contexts, but it can be an especially helpful resource for students, teachers and tutors looking to break down complicated concepts and get a firmer understanding of them.
Writers can use ChatGPT to help them jazz up pieces of creative writing, by helping to generate ideas, produce story outlines, provide various character perspectives, and more. Whether they are writing a novel, a poem or a screenplay, ChatGPT can help.?
Believe it or not, ChatGPT can also write songs complete with chord progressions and lyrics organized into verses and choruses! Of course, if you want to actually hear the piece, you’ll have to play it on an instrument.?
ChatGPT is capable of playing a number of word games, all a user has to do is prompt it to. Some of the most popular games to play with ChatGPT include 20 questions, would you rather, and even choose your own adventure. Some are even asking ChatGPT for personal advice on relationships and finances.
Overall, people are finding creative ways to use ChatGPT that go beyond its traditional applications. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative uses of chatbots like ChatGPT in the future.

1 年I’ve started using it for information, and to get social media ideas. I don’t think I’d use it to write for me though. It lacks my ‘voice’ and is very mechanical. I love writing too. But I’m amazed at what people are using it for! Such early days, it’s fascinating ??
