Reimagining Resources
To us, a circular economy is one that innovates to use fewer resources, creates less waste, and incorporates the recycling of products to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of materials. We are proud of the ongoing progress we’ve made to do just that. Keep reading to learn more about some of our latest initiatives advancing circularity.
Championing a Circular Economy
While circularity is a long-term ambition, we have three core pillars highlighted below that lead our efforts today.
Sustainable Packaging Across Our Portfolio
Embedding sustainability into all our activities including the packaging of our products continues to be a priority. We are working towards all our packaging recycle-ready by 2025. By the end of 2023, we had already achieved over 90% recycle-ready packaging.
How? We have implemented several initiatives to make products and packaging more sustainable, including:
**Exterior plastic poly wrap and paper pack must be separated by the adult consumer in an effort to ensure the pack is recyclable. Recyclability is subject to local law and infrastructure. Check with local recycling facilities regarding acceptance.
Engaging Suppliers to Advance Sustainability
We believe working together makes innovation more effective, leading to better and more sustainable results. Recently, our Procurement team welcomed senior leaders and sustainability professionals from our top suppliers to Winston-Salem, NC, and the Reynolds Operations Center for the inaugural Supplier Sustainability Summit to openly discuss sustainability strategies, initiatives, and growth plans to inspire innovation and increase collaboration.
“Reynolds was really successful in bringing multiple suppliers from different areas together and the discussions were really fruitful," said Diogo de Almeida , Regional Sales Director at Amcor, Inc. , one of our key suppliers. "We all have things that we can learn from Reynolds and hopefully collaborate towards achieving fantastic results in the future for the planet and for all of us.”
Cigarette Butt Litter Prevention and Responsible Disposal
Cigarette butt litter doesn’t belong on the ground. We are aware of the impacts of cigarette litter on the environment and work to continue to collaborate with stakeholders and encourage responsible disposal.
Our partners, Keep America Beautiful and TerraCycle, are providing adult Keep America Beautiful volunteers across the country the opportunity to collect cigarette butts and send them to TerraCycle, where they are combined with other materials to make useful, Earth-friendly items such as lumber, furniture, containers and more. Staying true to our key pillar, Recover, this is one example of how by working together we can give cigarette butt waste a new life and turn it into something useful again. ?

New Category Product Take Back Programs
Have you heard we’re on a journey to build a smokeless world yet? That transformation from combustible cigarettes to New Category products brings additional challenges - products with different environmental profiles, such as vapor devices containing lithium-ion batteries.
Our operating companies are consistently working to improve circularity and create less overall waste. In partnership with leading recycling organizations, our operating company R.J. Reynolds Vapor Company provides recycling options for vapor devices through Call2Recycle? the USA’s largest, most reliable battery recycling program, and pods, tanks, and cartridges through g2 revolution?[1]. These partnerships provide accessible methods for responsible disposal and help reduce the environmental impact of vapor products.
How can these services be utilized?
Call2Recycle?: Adult consumers can drop off used batteries for free at thousands of accessible, convenient locations across the U.S., including The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Staples. Visit Call2Recycle to learn more.
g2 revolution?: g2 revolution? accepts vapor pods, tanks, and cartridges from 26 states. To request a recycling envelope, visit g2 revolution?.
[1] ON AVERAGE, CALL2RECYCLE RECYCLES ABOUT 70% OF THE WEIGHT OF RJRV VAPOR DEVICES. G2REVOLUTION RECYCLES RJRV VAPOR PODS, TANKS, AND CARTRIDGES, AND IT REPURPOSES LEFTOVER E-LIQUID RINSE WATER THROUGH A WASTE-TO-ENERGY PROGRAM. THE RJRV VAPOR RECYCLING PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE ONLY IN THE LIMITED AREAS WHERE WE OFFER AN APPROPRIATE RECYCLING PROGRAM. RJRV VAPOR PRODUCTS MAY NOT BE RECYCLABLE IN YOUR AREA.
