From VMsprawl to DBbrawl

I guess most of you have heard of VMsprawl: the tendency of all things virtual to get completely out of hand when left completely unmanaged. You create a really easy way for people to create their own virtual machines, and off they go, creating them willy-nilly, until you have loads of virtual machines that you are not entirely sure which are important, and which were test machines that haven’t been used for ages. There are things we can do to fix this, but that is a story for another day...
So what is this newly termed DBbrawl? – well this is the outcome we get when, completely unmanaged, we spin a databases up as a virtual instances, and then they are just left to organically take on a life of their own.
The DB was created as if it were a physical instance – without tuning the virtual instance to the realities of its final state, before long it is fighting to survive, and its performance
In fact all grown up, the database is frankly a poor fit. This is ultimately an issue for the infrastructure Administrator – the business critical application using the database reflects badly on the infrastructure platform!

Today I had a long call with Ehab HELMY – and he took me through how Nutanix’s Database Management Services can blueprint the correct settings for all your databases. This is a really cool solution that take the headache out tuning databases – so regardless of whether it is Oracle/MS SQL/MongoDB/PostrgeSQL/MySQL/Etc. the tool automatically applies the correct tuning to provision and maintain that database.?https://www.nutanix.com/solutions/databases
P.S. The clever information is Ehab's, any errors are mine :)
