From Vision to Milestones: The Journey of Building TheACE

From Vision to Milestones: The Journey of Building TheACE

"You have to pull your weight. Special announcements are reserved for those who offer us more value."

These words, shared by an industry leader I deeply admired, struck a chord when I proposed a partnership less than a month after starting The African Comics & Cinematic Empire (TheACE). Instead of deterring me, this tough-love advice fueled my resolve. It pushed me to focus on building a platform that creates value worth noticing.

When I launched TheACE in July, my mission was clear: to fix the publicity image problem of the African comic book and animation space. This vision encouraged my team and I to develop a strategy that would give us the confidence to pitch TheACE anywhere.

So, what value does TheACE bring to the table? We go in-depth.

It sounds simple, but the execution is where the complexity lies. With a small team of three, we shy away from generic synopsis-style information. Instead, we focus on telling stories in personal, empathic ways that resonate with creators and fans alike.

TheACE Milestone Visualised

While we’re still young, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in just six months. We secured our first media partnership with Lagos Comic Con, Nigeria’s largest geek culture gathering, within three months of operation and consistently shared in-depth stories, insights, and news that elevate visibility for African creators, with a focus on Nigeria.

Now, I’m thrilled to announce our next milestone: TheACE is collaborating with Bookause to produce what may be the first-ever Industry Report for the Nigerian comic book space. This report, which will be released in January 2025, aims to provide an objective, research-worthy overview of the sector.

But we can’t do it alone. If you’re passionate about African comics and animation, we’d love your input! Please spare a few minutes to fill out our survey, it’ll help us create a report that truly represents the industry.

Building a digital media brand in such a dynamic niche has required creativity, persistence, and a deep connection with the community we serve. I’m excited about the future: connecting with more creators, collaborating with brands that share our mission, and continuing to grow TheACE into a trusted voice in this industry.

Thank you for your unwavering support. Every like, comment, and share reminds me that this work matters. Together, let’s amplify the voices of the creators shaping this space.
