Greetings everyone!
I am thrilled to share my thoughts on a topic close to my heart. It is to harness the power of virtual gaming skills in the real world.
"The Gaming Learning" newsletter started with "The Gamer's Mindset: Developing Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills". I received valuable feedback from my friends. Many believed it was just a fantasy that gaming skills could be applied to the real world. While I agreed with them entirely, my perspective changed when I read Dale Carnegie's story from John C. Maxwell.
Dale Carnegie was a master at identifying potential leaders. Once asked by a reporter how he had hired forty-three millionaires, Carnegie responded that the men had not been millionaires when they started working for him. They become millionaires as a result. The reporter next wanted to know how he had developed these men to become such valuable leaders. Carnegie replied, "Men are moulded the same way gold is mined. Several tons of dirt must be moved to get an ounce of gold. But you don't go into the mine looking for it (dirt)," he added. "You go in looking for the gold." That's the way to develop positive, successful people. Look for the gold, not the dirt; the good, not the bad. The more positive qualities you look for, the more you find.
We can also apply this analogy to gaming skills. We should look for gold in gaming, i.e., critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills. These are essential for success.
While there are undoubtedly some side effects of gaming, just as there are for any activity, if we focus only on the negatives, we would never take medicines in the first place.
Why would I make that Fantasy a Reality?
I am an avid gamer. I would love to remain that way eternally. The reason is that I have personally experienced the benefits of gaming skills in real-life situations. Gaming has taught me to think strategically, work in a team, and cope with challenges. It has also made me more creative, curious, and confident. Gaming is now a lifestyle and not just a hobby for me. I enjoy exploring new worlds, meeting new friends, and learning new things through gaming.
