The Exodus from Twitter to BlueSky has presented fantastic opportunities for all of us to press the reset button.
Toxic Twitter
Twitter has become a place of high toxicity and I just don’t think it’s good for anyone’s mental health to participate in activity that is unhelpful. This is isn’t about , I can’t handle your opinion or I don’t or I don’t agree with you. It is about the lack of:
·???????? Constructive dialogue
·???????? Security
·???????? Privacy
·???????? Account control? and the continual rise of AI/porn bots
A Shocking Example of Abuse
As I migrate from Twitter to Bluesky I came across an artist that I am not familiar with. I don’t interact with them, but I had heard of them - ?Gabriel Union and it was a polite post explaining that they were leaving Twitter however the amount of abuse on the post was shocking - how is that even justified? Is this what we’ve actually become as a society? It’s something that we discussed quite recently on my podcast Tech Journey Insights where I talk about navigating the world of tech as a woman along with sharing entrepreneurial insights and my tech journey.
A Breath of fresh air
What Bluesky presented for me was an opportunity to:
·???????? Be presented with wholesome content in the main
·???????? The ability to engage in, constructive dialogue that is beneficial for all involved
It’s okay to have differences of opinion but this must be done in a respectful manner. It also comes at a point in my career considering different career directions so it helps me to not be restricted by the algorithms and to seek out new people because if you’ve tried to do this before it is very very difficult once the algorithms believe they know you and understand you and only serve you certain content and recommendations!
What I miss from Twitter
Do I wish that Bluesky had some features of Twitter?? Of course!? I liked:
·???????? The original blue tick but maybe that will come to Bluesky
·???????? The trending feature on Twitter but again I hold out hope that it will soon be on Bluesky
·???????? Tweet Deck – but I have been recommended Blue Deck (which I have yet to explore)
·???????? On Twitter that you can have longer videos, but Bluesky does have short videos and maybe there is something to be said about not having all these lengthy videos, just short snippets that get to the point quickly!?
This reset button is actually a great thing, setting ourselves free, embracing the new and moving forward.
Concern and Hope
However, my concerns are that eventually Bluesky may also become or go down the way the Twitter has because ultimately they will need to earn money!? Services are never offered free of charge without some form of monetisation going on somehow.
My final point…I am buoyed by the fact that Bluesky has granular settings to manage the content and to block. I also really like the Starter pack feature, helping to find people you wish to engage with easily.
Over to you!? What are your thoughts?
I was Bluesky user number 6,235,024. Where do you feature? What are your thoughts about the exodus and how do you feel about it?
