In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget the power of human connection. Networking is about building genuine relationships that can open doors to new opportunities, it not about giving that business card or sending that random connection request on LinkedIn.
Do we even need to discuss why networking is important? Well, maybe because our cat won't get us a job (unless our cat is exceptionally well-connected).
Lets rather discuss what the biggest mistake is that one might do in networking??
It is to approach it with a transactional mindset. One meeting with my skip manager to push my project or my promotion in most cases wont be helpful. People will see through it, the trap of seeing networking as a means to an end.
It should be about give and take. How can we give/help them as well. Its about showcasing what we bring to the table. It's about building genuine long term relationship.

The Dos of Networking:
Don't waste your time just exchanging business-cards/sending those random "lets connect" messages, setting up that once in a blue moon 1:1 with that senior lead- no body remembers them. If networking is on your mind then go for the human connect & actively engage. Make that genuine interaction count!
Next week's topic- "Networking for Introverts" because I understand that not everyone is an extrovert. :)
