Celebrating the Graduation of Batch 02 – Marine Fuels Trading Associates Program.

The graduation of Batch 02 marks the completion of an incredible journey—one that transformed eager learners into confident professionals ready to take on the dynamic world of marine fuels trading. Over the past four months, these trainees have undergone an intensive and structured program that combined in-depth theoretical learning with hands-on practical experience, shaping them into future trading specialists.

This program wasn’t just about acquiring knowledge—it was about building resilience, sharpening analytical thinking, and developing the strategic mindset required to succeed in this competitive industry. As the L&D Specialist, I had the privilege of guiding them through this transformation, witnessing firsthand their dedication, growth, and passion for trading.

Theoretical Training: Laying a Strong Foundation

The first month of training was conducted in the classroom, where the focus was on understanding the fundamentals of marine fuels trading. The trainees engaged in interactive learning sessions, case studies, and real-world market simulations, covering key industry topics such as:

? LNG & Alternative Fuels – Exploring the shift towards cleaner energy sources and understanding the future of marine fuels.

? Refineries, Fuel Production and Marine Fuels – Analyzing the refining process, fuel specifications, supply chain intricacies and different types of fuels.

? Market Analysis – Learning how to assess global market trends, pricing strategies, and supply-demand fluctuations.

? Team Presentations – Working together on projects related to different aspects of the industry, fostering collaboration and critical thinking.

These sessions were not just lectures, but a series of practical, discussion-driven exercises designed to equip trainees with the ability to analyze, strategize, and make informed decisions—essential skills for a successful career in bunker trading.

Practical Training: Hands-On Experience in the Real Trading World

After mastering the theoretical foundation, the trainees transitioned to the trading floor, where they spent the next three months immersed in real-world trading activities. This was where their knowledge was put to the test in live market scenarios, guided by our experienced traders in Dubai and outstations.

Some of the key aspects of their practical training included:

? Shadowing Traders – Observing professional traders in action, understanding how they analyze deals, negotiate, and manage risks.

?Cold Calling Training – Learning how to approach clients, initiate conversations, and build strong relationships—a crucial skill in bunker trading.

? Industry Events & Networking – Attending key industry gatherings to connect with market players, gaining exposure to the broader trading ecosystem.

? Software Training – Hands-on experience with the systems and tools used in Oilmar’s operations, ensuring they are technically prepared for their roles.

? Familiarization (FAM) Tours – A visit to Fujairah Port and Valor’s Terminal, where they got a firsthand look at fuel storage, logistics, and supply chain operations.

This practical, high-intensity exposure allowed the trainees to apply their skills in real-world situations, gain confidence, and understand the fast-paced nature of the industry. Through ongoing feedback and mentorship from the Oilmar trading team, they honed their abilities and prepared themselves for the next stage of their careers.

Guidance, Support & Strong Leadership

The success of this program was made possible by the continuous support of our traders, leaders, and management. This year, with the introduction of new management, we had the privilege of receiving exceptional guidance from our Global Head of Trading Ines Trelles and Managing Director Alexandre Mule, whose leadership provided the trainees with an enriched learning experience. Their support, along with the mentorship from experienced traders, ensured that this batch received the best possible training and development opportunities.

What makes this journey truly remarkable is the commitment and perseverance displayed by each trainee. They embraced every challenge, adapted to the demands of the industry, and delivered outstanding results in both theoretical and practical assessments. Their ability to analyze markets, build relationships, and make strategic decisions speaks volumes about their potential and readiness to excel in this industry.

As Batch 02 officially steps into their careers at Oilmar DMCC, the future of marine fuels trading looks brighter than ever. There is no doubt that they will continue to grow, innovate, and make a meaningful impact in this field.
