From Training to Learning
Sometimes you start with teaching and end up as a student! Yesterday I met a young professional Marwa Mohabe in Dar and had this feeling during and after the meeting. Capacity Building and learning is an important component of FCDO supported GCIP and in Tanzania we would like to bring fresh approaches to this, which are based on opportunities rather than challenges. In a relaxed way, Marwa Mohabe shared his passion, knowledge and frustrations with me. Initially, my inner teacher was ready to teach him, but within the first 20 minutes it was clear that he knows a lot, his analysis was in-depth and he was sharing this with a feeling of love for the city. As a local young professional, he would like to see a different city in future and this must come from building up on locally successful initiatives, both small and large. After meeting with him, I was back to my thinking 'drawing board'. In a two hours meeting, he left a large question for me, 'Do we need to think about local capacity development differently? Well done Marwa Mohabe to change me from a teacher to a student!
