From Theatre to Grindhouse

Our friendship has now faded like a sun bleached movie poster
One corner of no importance is vibrant and ablaze with colour
But the rest, the majority of what once caught the eye
Has grown dull and lifeless, no longer able to attract an audience.
Once you were the star of my show, the feature attraction
And I was entertaining enough for your Saturday matinee
But something has changed and gone horribly wrong
And you can’t blame the sun for this is a result of darkness.
A darkness that seems to have arisen inside your mind
Though perhaps it was always there, fed by jealousy and anger
It has now become an overwhelming presence, even to you
For it seems to disobey common logic and rational thought.
Time and events are now warped, structured to fit
The vindictive narrative that you hunger to be true
And I, bound by honour and position can’t voice reply
To accusations or even discuss the situation with others.
Those “others” who you in an emotion I can’t begin to grasp
Believe I talk to of your past and present with exaggerations
If not outright falsehoods which I have neither time or desire
To construct and distribute as you do so freely to them.
Yes, once we had a friendship so worthy of advertising
That even a single impression, like that of a movie poster
Would cause people to envy and feel desire to partake in
And gladly pay the price of admission just for our presence.
?I wonder if I will ever know what happened in this final reel
Where you decided to rewrite my script without telling me
For on my part I will mourn the loss of such a classic picture
While you go on to try and sell to the public a “B-Movie”.
