From Temporary Role to Eternal Purpose: A Journey of Faith, Identity, and Illumination

Tynissha N. Cromer _ Introduction

Transitions are often uncomfortable, yet they can be the very catalyst for discovering our truest selves. For me, stepping into a transitional position seemed like just that—temporary. It was a role I took on with the understanding that it could be fleeting, but something in me wasn’t ready to leave. The work became more than just a job; it felt like a part of my identity. Yet, as God began to pull me away from this position, I found myself grappling with emotions that challenged my sense of self-worth and purpose.?

When the Lord led me out of that position, I felt like I had failed—both professionally and personally. Feelings of inadequacy took over, and Imposter Syndrome crept in. I questioned whether I was truly capable or worthy of the tasks I had been given. The internal conflict between feelings and facts was almost overwhelming. My position had become tied to my sense of identity, and without it, I felt adrift, unsure of who I was.?

But here's the thing: God's plan is never to leave us where we are but to elevate us into the fullness of who He created us to be. It was in this uncomfortable transition that I began to see the truth. My identity is not defined by a title, a job, or a role. It’s not about what I do; it’s about who I am in Him. Through prayer, reflection, and diving into the words of Jamie Winship's Fearless Living, I was reminded that my true identity is to be a light in this world.?

I’ve come to embrace that just as light brings clarity, warmth, and guidance; I am called to reflect God’s presence in a way that brightens the lives of others. My role is to illuminate—to help others see, understand, and experience the love and truth of God more clearly. This isn't about being seen; it’s about letting God’s light shine through me. As Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT) reminds us:?

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."?

Now, I find myself in an organization where both my faith and identity are welcomed, nurtured, and celebrated. Every day I am learning more about myself, not just in my professional capacity but in the larger scope of God’s purpose for my life. It is a journey of growth, discovery, and transformation—one that I am honored to be on.?

I invite you to join me on this journey through my blog, where I will be sharing how faith, identity, and career come together to shape the calling God has placed on my life. My prayer is that these reflections will inspire and encourage others as they navigate their own transitions, knowing that our identity is found not in what we do but in who we are in Christ.?
