From Targets to Trust: The True Art of Leadership"

From my own journey in the corporate world, I’ve come to realize that leadership is about so much more than hitting targets or staying on top of the latest tech trends. It’s truly about understanding people—"both your team and your clients."

When you work with a team, you're essentially juggling personalities, quirks, and sometimes even “creative” deadlines (you know the ones—when “ASAP” means anything from a few hours to, “I’ll get to it in a week”). But here's the thing: Empathy is what holds it all together.

The best leaders don’t just manage tasks—they listen, understand, and support. They recognize that behind every spreadsheet and project update, there’s a human who might be struggling with something beyond work (yes, even in IT). So, take that extra moment to check in with your team.

One of my most memorable leadership lessons came early on in my career. I had a team member struggling with personal challenges, but we were in the middle of a high-pressure client project. I had two choices: push harder for deadlines or offer a bit of flexibility. I chose the latter. In return, I got more than just loyalty. I got creativity, dedication, and the kind of team spirit that makes late-night deadlines feel like less of a marathon and more of a relay race (you know, the kind with snacks at the end :).

Humor is also a secret weapon. A little laugh during a stressful moment can do wonders. As long as it’s the right kind of humor

At the end of the day, leadership is about creating a space where your team can thrive—not just survive. It's about trust, understanding, and yes, even a little bit of humor. So, the next time you're navigating a tight deadline, remember: lead with empathy and a smile. Your team—and your clients—will thank you for it.
