From Target to Amazon- Ramping up
Almost done with week 3, and still feels like Day 1 (which is an Amazon mantra - to always say/act/think like it's Day 1!), but it literally does still feel like Day 1. I was in a meeting today and someone said after a month, you can't say you're new anymore, because you will be surrounded with people that are in their first or second week. Because Amazon is hiring at insane numbers.
Especially coming from Target, where folks have been with the company for years or more likely decades, it is a little strange to be around so many other "new" people. I have wondered how Amazon can maintain processes, institutional knowledge, and relationships. I have wondered if they are scaling too fast and when the bubble will burst. All thoughts that any good Midwesterner would think (generalization: we are a cautious and skeptical breed).
But what I have gathered so far is that Amazon is truly in constant evolution, improvement and change- it's exciting, empowering, and does really feel like you can make an impact and there are no limits to what you can accomplish. I have seen little to no "red tape"- my corporate equivalent of death. The only constant here is challenging the status quo.
And Amazon does that best- and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
