From Talent Development Programme to BIM Technician: Hear from Cian on his return to DCT
What made you decide to re-join DCT after your experience with our Talent Development Programme during college?
"During my college years, I gained a solid foundation in digital construction concepts, but my work experience at DCT gave me the practical skills I needed. I had the opportunity to work on real live projects, which allowed me to see how BIM is applied in actual construction scenarios. One project, in particular, was challenging because it involved coordinating multiple systems in a complex build for a data centre project. It was a great learning experience and helped shape my approach to problem-solving and collaboration within the industry."
How did your college experience, both in the classroom and during your work experience at DCT, prepare you for your role as a BIM Technician?
“Re-joining DCT felt like a natural step for me after completing my studies, as it was an organic progression in my career. During my time in the Talent Development Programme, I felt welcomed by the team, and I really valued the opportunities for growth and learning. I appreciated the culture and the chance to work on impactful projects, so when the opportunity to come back as a BIM Technician came up, I didn’t need to think twice.”

What was the most challenging or rewarding project you worked on during college, and how did it shape your approach to digital construction?
"As a student, my most challenging project was my final thesis. The topic was quite new to me, and I encountered many problems along the way. It was very rewarding to make progress by solving these challenges, and I'm looking forward to applying this mindset within the industry. Digital construction is always evolving, so there’s a lot to look forward to in terms of new technologies and innovations that I'll get to be a part of."
What are you most excited about as you transition from being a student to working full-time in the industry?
“Now that I’ve completed my studies, I’m looking forward to having more time for my personal interests. I enjoy staying active, so I’m hoping to get back into sports and maybe travel a bit more. Having a gym right beside the office is a great benefit for staying active with the team.?
I'm also really looking forward to applying what I learned during my thesis to my work at DCT. I developed a prototype sensor for a building that tracked temperature and humidity, then used Dynamo scripting to integrate the data into a Revit model. From there, I exported the information to Excel for facility managers, providing them with a comprehensive and easily accessible overview of the sensor data, which helped streamline their monitoring and decision-making processes.
I’m also keen to continue learning, whether that’s through industry certifications or just keeping up with new technology in digital construction. I enjoy challenges, so taking on more responsibility in my new role as a technician is something I am looking forward to also.”?
