From TA to Course Leader

With the new academic year soon upon us I have been reflecting on my academic journey:
In Sept 2005 I became a teaching assistant at Nottingham University (during my Part II in architecture) - 10 years later in Sept 2015 I became full time Course Leader at Brighton University.
I won't lie, it's been a tough journey, in so many ways, but I have learnt so much along the way. I wasn't a particularly strong student, but helping other students learn gave me the perspective and the insight I needed to critically examine my own work and that is still true today. I can honestly say I have learnt something valuable from every single student I have had the pleasure to teach in the last 11 years. Being a course leader is a whole new kind of test, knowing that 150 students' lives are in many ways in my hands - that's enough impetus to keep fighting every day.
My students deserve the same dedication that my lecturers gave to my education - so thank you. And respect to all those lecturers out there working over and above to give their students the best opportunities.
