From a surprise interview in school to becoming part of PMP’s team, Laila's journey...

It’s National Apprenticeship Week and we have a story and a person here at PMP that is worth celebrating.

Laila joined PMP direct from School as part of the Glasgow Guarantee Scheme. When Laila was first approached by her teacher she was told that she had been selected for an interview the next day with a building surveying company in Glasgow, and she wasn’t sure what to expect.

At just 16, she had never considered a career in the construction industry or business but a simple conversation with her teacher changed everything.

Laila said: “I didn’t know what path I wanted but I had an interest in administration, organising, and marketing. I interviewed with the PMP team and I liked the people, the culture and the environment.

"Joining PMP as an apprentice was an opportunity I never expected, but it has shaped my career in ways I could never have imagined. The support and experience I've gained across both administration and marketing has been truly transformative to my life.”

Laila is a core part of the Glasgow team and the wider company working across our offices in Edinburgh, Bristol and Manchester. She is also an integral part of the marketing activities that drives the PMP brand. Working closely with Office Managers, she ensured the smooth running of day-to-day tasks, proving herself to be a reliable and a much loved member of the team.

From day one, she immersed herself in learning, mastering key administrative tasks such as managing office systems, handling documentation, and working with Microsoft Word and Excel. But her ambitions didn’t stop there. While excelling in administration, she also discovered a passion for?marketing and communications.

This led her to take on a key role within?PMP’s Marketing team, where she collaborates with industry experts to strengthen the company’s brand visibility and engagement. Her creativity and enthusiasm have helped drive impactful marketing campaigns, showcasing her creative talents in the recent Christmas campaign and her resourcefulness to ensure that PMP is promoted as the leading property partner in our industry.

“The support and experience I’ve gained has given me the confidence to take on new challenges and it has brought me out of my comfort zone,’ she explains. ?

?"I never imagined I would get an opportunity like this, but thanks to Glasgow Guarantee and PMP, I’ve been able to build a career I truly enjoy. The support and guidance I’ve received along the way have been incredible, helping me grow both professionally and personally. I’m so grateful for everything this journey has given me."

Over the past two years, Laila has successfully completed her Business and Administration Modern Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6 - SVQ 3)?and is now, being supported to take the next step in her career, working towards her Digital Applications Diploma (SCQF Level 6)—a qualification that will allow her to further integrate her administrative expertise with digital marketing skills.

From a surprise interview in school to becoming a vital part of PMP’s team, Laila’s journey is a testament to the value and power of apprenticeships to change lives.
