Comic-Con is more than just a gathering of pop culture enthusiasts; it's a convergence of over 130,000 diverse, passionate communities that represent a unique blend of creativity, technology, and consumer engagement. For brands, Comic-Con offers a golden opportunity to connect with an enormous audience that values authenticity, innovation, and immersive experiences.
XD Agency
has worked with brands to activate at Comic-Con the many years and has see the impressive results. Joy, excitement, awe - increased attendee numbers, millions of media impressions - and ultimately, loyal consumers.
While there are many obvious brands who have a presence at Comic-Con year after year, wouldn't it be powerful to see some not-so-obvious brand show up with a creative activation?
For fun, I created a list of some brands & potential activations that could tap into the incredible world-wide phenomenon that is Comic-Con.

苹果
: With a tech-savvy customer base, Apple could set up an interactive "The Hero the World Gets" (from Spiderman, hello!) Hall where attendees can step into the hero seat as they put on the Apple Vision Pro & become their favorite characters. With the ability to play their favorite video games or watch their favorite shows/movies, they'll be completely immersed in these fantastical worlds. The hall will also allow guests to explore the latest Apple products, and potentially experience exclusive previews of upcoming Apple TV+ shows. This AR experience will allow fans to interact with characters and scenes from their favorite games and shows in real-time, while putting Apple at the forefront of the consumers mind when it comes to their gaming technology.

宜家
: Most of our pop-culture intake happens at home. This is where IKEA comes in. IKEA could design a series of "Geek Chic" living spaces inspired by different pop culture genres (sci-fi, fantasy, superhero). There could be immersive room sets inspired by popular movies, TV shows, or comic books where attendees can walk through and interact with the furniture and decor, making them feel like they’ve stepped into their favorite fictional worlds. Think walking into the Avenger's Mansion but made out of IKEA furniture. Plus, let's be real, aren't most of our gaming desks from IKEA anyways?

Spotify
: Music is the companion of experience. It's playing during the most heart-wrenching moments in movies, building anticipation in your favorite video games, and is the ever-present backdrop to many as they read, write, or work. Spotify could create the "Soundtrack of Your Life" booth - a real music studio - where professional (maybe even famous) music producers help attendees create their own theme song. Additionally, there would be interactive screens where attendees can curate their own playlists based on their favorite games, comic books, shows, and characters. Step it up a notch with live performances of your favorite artists whose music is featured in our favorite movies & shows to further enhance the experience.
-
Twitch
: Twitch is one of the most widely used livestream platforms for gamers and their fans. Imagine a world-wide tournament happening throughout the four-days of Comic-Con, with some of the most well-known streamers playing (and streaming, of course) from the Twitch booth, AND virtually playing with people from all over the world. This not only creates friendly competition and excitement in San Diego, but also allows fans to tap into the fandom and magic of SDCC globally.

SEPHORA
: We can't forget the love of cosplay at Comic-Con. Yet many people who dream of transforming themselves into their favorite character simply don't have the knowledge on how to do so. Sephora could launch a "Inside the Makeup Studio" (like 'Inside the Actor's Studio,' see what I did there?) where the makeup artists responsible for your favorite characters will go through the process of transforming a few lucky guests into the character of their dreams. Additionally, there could be other makeup artists offering more at-home friendly makeup tutorials for cosplayers. Collaborations with top beauty influencers and themed product launches could attract both makeup enthusiasts and cosplay fans.

: Pepsi could create an immersive, multi-media lounge (think Meow Wolf) that takes consumers on an other-worldly journey offering exclusive, limited-edition beverages and snacks inspired by beloved franchises (how about a fun take on Star Wars' Blue Milk?). A multi-sensory exhibit hall with unexpected twists and turns (maybe attendees will even walk through the vending machine) that encourages play, adventure, and lasting memories, all while refueling on Pepsi products (SDCC is fun but tiring!). Kids aren't the only ones who deserve to have a little fun.

阿迪达斯
: Adidas already has existing shoe collections in comic-book & superhero theme - let's lean in further. Superheroes are in their peak physical fitness, and that requires apparel and shoes that can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Let's take athletic wear, but make it fashion. Creating an art gallery with our favorite Adidas apparel and shoes from the years on display, we can also create a funny, yet engaging fashion show. Think your favorite superheroes walking the runway in the newest line from Adidas. Leaning into the costumes, let's have some of the costume-designers from our favorite shows & movies talk the audience through the most important aspects of the outfit & how to bring them to life. Finally, we'll let our guests create their own shoes to help them conquer their toughest battles at a booth where they can design their own sneakers using themed colors, patterns, and characters, with the option to purchase and take home their creations.
