Sustaining Brilliance: Kelly’s Path Beyond Coaching

Over the past two articles, I’ve shared Kelly A.’s powerful journey—from feeling stuck in her Vice President role to breaking through invisible barriers with bold, strategic actions. Today, in the final part of this series, we explore how Kelly sustained her growth beyond our coaching engagement, ensuring that her brilliance continued to shine long after our sessions ended.

The Real Challenge: Sustaining Momentum

Growth during coaching is often transformative, but the real test comes after the sessions end. How do you maintain the momentum when the regular check-ins are gone? How do you ensure that boldness doesn’t fade back into old habits?

For Kelly, this phase was just as critical as the breakthroughs she experienced during coaching. She wasn’t just building confidence—she was embedding it into her leadership identity.

Kindle: Fueling Long-Term Growth

The final stage of the SPARK model is Kindle, designed to ignite a lasting drive for growth. Here’s how Kelly ensured her transformation wasn’t temporary:

  1. Establishing a Growth Framework: Kelly and I co-created a one-year development plan with clear, quarterly milestones. This wasn’t just a list of goals—it was a roadmap to maintain focus, track progress, and celebrate wins. Each milestone built on the last, reinforcing her growth step by step.
  2. Finding a Mentor: To continue receiving guidance and feedback, Kelly identified a senior leader within her organization to act as a mentor. This relationship provided ongoing support, accountability, and a sounding board for new challenges and opportunities.
  3. Embedding Reflection Practices: We introduced reflective practices, like journaling and weekly self-assessments, to help Kelly stay connected to her growth journey. By regularly reflecting on her wins, challenges, and lessons learned, she maintained clarity and purpose.

The Ripple Effect of Sustained Brilliance

As Kelly embedded these practices into her routine, the impact went beyond her career:

  • Enhanced Leadership Presence: Kelly continued to lead high-impact projects, but with a newfound confidence that inspired her teams and peers.
  • Ongoing Recognition: Her consistent visibility and strategic contributions led to more opportunities for influence within the organization.
  • Personal Fulfillment: Beyond professional success, Kelly felt more aligned with her values, experiencing a deeper sense of purpose in her work and life.

One of the most powerful things Kelly shared with me post-coaching was this:

“I thought coaching would help me get promoted. It did more than that. It changed how I see myself—and that changed everything.”

Kelly’s story isn’t just a case study—it’s a testament to what’s possible when women choose to invest in themselves, embrace bold action, and sustain their growth.
