From Stuck to Strong: How a Neurological Approach Transformed a Post-Surgical Shoulder Case

When a patient walked into my office recently, he brought with him a story I’ve heard all too often. He had undergone rotator cuff surgery due to a workers' compensation injury. After 8 weeks of physical therapy, he was still plagued by pain, limited range of motion, and noticeable weakness in his right shoulder. Being right-handed, this was a primary concern for him.

Frustrated, he revisited his orthopedic surgeon, who ordered shoulder x-rays. The surgeon said the joint looked good and suggested another 4 weeks of physical therapy. If no progress were made, he would consider an MRI.

Instead of waiting, this patient remembered the success he had in my office three years ago for a previous shoulder issue. He decided to see if I could help again.

Examination and Findings

Upon examination, I noted that his right shoulder had a reduced range of motion compared to his left. Weakness was present in both the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles. Using the ARP Neuro scanning evaluation, we identified neurological “hot spots” in these areas, signaling unresolved dysfunction that was likely preventing his recovery.

The Neurological Solution

Rather than chasing orthopedic symptoms, we addressed the neurological root of the problem. By integrating ARP Neuro therapy with shoulder flexion and abduction exercises, we stimulated the nervous system to reset and activate proper muscle function.

The results? After just 8 visits, his range of motion was restored, muscle strength returned to normal, and he was released from care. No extended physical therapy, no MRI, and no lingering frustration.

Why Chiropractors Should Lead Post-Surgical Rehab

This case underscores a powerful truth: a neurological approach, not just an orthopedic one, is often the missing piece in post-surgical rehabilitation. With the right training and advanced tools like ARP Neuro therapy, chiropractors are uniquely positioned to take the lead in this space. No one is better equipped to bridge the gap between surgery and full recovery.
