From Stigma to Support: HIV Awareness in the Black Community
Black Health Matters
Providing information and resources about health and wellness within the African American community.
HIV remains a critical public health issue in Black communities, with African Americans representing 42% of all cases despite making up only 13% of the U.S. population. Systemic inequities, limited healthcare access, and stigma continue to fuel the epidemic, making education and community-driven action essential. While advances like antiretroviral therapy (ART) and PrEP have improved outcomes, the fight for equitable access and stigma-free care is far from over.
Community-based organizations are leading the charge by promoting testing, providing culturally sensitive resources, and empowering individuals with knowledge. Addressing HIV requires open dialogue, dismantling stigma, and fostering inclusion to ensure all communities can thrive.
