Happy New Year from Rushfirth Creative!
As we step into a year brimming with possibilities, the Rushfirth Creative team extends warm wishes. May this year unfold with success and creativity. Here's to a year marked by boundless creativity, thriving partnerships, and unparalleled success!
As a person, I believe I’m fuelled by two 'whys': my amazing family first and foremost, and secondly a lifelong passion for creativity. Since childhood, I've been drawing, creating, and discovering my path as a successful creative professional.
One standout moment in my childhood was the great Palitoy Star Wars competition.
As I've always said, I've been drawing and creating pictures since I was a toddler. As part of that passion and enthusiasm, I always used to enter any art competition going. Local. National. With full expectation that I'd win a prize, and I generally did (sorry, that's just the way it seemed to play out).
Being a MASSIVE Star Wars fan, I was understandably excited when Palitoy announced a big national art competition. The advert ran and ran in every comic going for weeks. The equivalent flyer sat neatly in a perspex stand on every toy store counter across the land for months.
I'd already spent every penny of my meagre pocket money for several years collecting the figures - but a first prize win in this contest would take my collection to 'the next level'. And I didn't even know what that particular cliché even meant back then.
So as a creative 12 year old, I got my piece of paper and pens out and made up a picture out of my head, drawing largely on my existing internal Star Wars visual references. I may have glimpsed at a few existing images in books, but I tended to prefer to do it from memory as a rule if I could. Less restricting.
I did the picture in one sitting, folded it up into an envelope and posted it off, with (I'm sorry...) with a full expectation that I'd win.
Anyways, 10 months later, when it was all forgotten about... a huge corrugated cardboard 'crate' turns up on our doorstep the week before Christmas. National first prize in my age group. Blimey.
What's the moral of the story? Hmmmm... not entirely sure. Perhaps it's that you should have faith in your gifts, do what you love and love what you do.
There's also a degree of 'law of attraction' type of mindset in the above ramblings - a mindset that I've still got today. I'm not a particularly confident person in many aspects, but I've never had any doubt in my creative abilities, I've always been completely fearless and known that there wasn't anything in that area that I couldn't do - and just like then, that expectation will always yield a desired outcome one way or another.
It also speaks of my creative drive, my ability to yield results from creativity and innovation. It’s a lifelong vocation, it’s in my DNA, in my soul, it’s my passion. It’s not a job… and other than my family and loved ones, it’s my life.
After the Star Wars gig, things went on from strength to strength, and my journey includes illustrating a children's book at 16, acquiring qualifications in graphic design, advertising, and marketing by 19, and branding national pub chains by 20. Then I spent several decades working with national and international brands with branded packaging.
Rushfirth Creative then emerged from the desire to bring big-agency quality to SMEs.
Choosing to work with Rushfirth Creative means partnering with someone born to do what they LOVE, and that is a vital part of our company culture and I instil that into the team as a way of life. We're not just another agency; we're a 'people company' that cares deeply about our clients. So as we look forward to the new year, here's to more creativity, innovation, and shared successes in 2024! ????
