From South East Asia to Australia

The team at Open Door have recently found themselves in the privileged position of working with an intern from Swinburne University named Phimmasone Chanthanileuth, or ‘Mimi’ for short.

Mimi, we have come to realise, personifies many of the attributes we see in the women we work with and spend our time promoting. These attributes are by no means gender specific, however, they do remind us what we are missing out on in places where women are underrepresented.

She is modest. After a gruelling examination and interview process, Mimi was selected to study in Australia. Of the seven hundred people that applied, Mimi was one of ten to be successful. She quietly shared this with us, but only after we probed her for more information.

She’s smart and ambitious. Mimi has a sharp intellect and a strong achievement orientation. She rapidly assimilates information, takes on challenges we give her without hesitation and learns quickly. Where some (myself included) might have taken on a course of study without a long-term plan, Mimi has clear goals, a clear strategy and focused energy.

She wants to give back. Mimi is currently studying a human resource focused degree. Her ambition is to return home and work in with one of the key charity organisations that operate in Laos. She wants to use her skills to give back to her community.

It is a pleasure and a privilege to support such a talented and generously spirited woman at the early stages of her career in making a positive impact on the world.

Good luck Mimi!
