From sourcing to getting your first 10 prototypes
Back then, I wondered whether manufacturing products in India would be worth the effort. Today Cuzor ships thousands of units a month and successfully competes with half a dozen Chinese imports. In Fydl we're building one of the most complex ML platforms on the edge.?
This is a short list of key questions I had and answers I found. I hope it will be helpful to fellow entrepreneurs.
1. How feasible is it to design and manufacture in India?
?????Yes, without a doubt. You can build your entire product from the ground up. Getting your first 1000 units out, from the ecosystem around Bangalore (Peenya and Electronic City) and Hosur is possible.
2. Where should I source my components from?
???For ICs, the first step is to contact their respective sales teams. Bangalore is home to large-scale distribution houses like Arrow, Avnet and WPG. You can mostly get first-level assistance from people out there.
For discrete components, there is LCSC, an online Chinese website. For PCBs, try JLPCB, which takes orders as low as 50. In both cases, components are shipped within six to seven days after they are ordered.

3. What are the legal formalities involved?
?????You must have an IEC code. Your CA can assist you with the process. Setting up a corporate remittance account with a bank may be much cheaper than using a plastic card for payments. Make sure the bank offers online remittances.
?Concurrently open accounts with DHL and FedEx. You will be able to clear customs and receive your shipment at your doorstep if you have an account.?
4. How can I get my first 10- 20 units for testing?
??????There is a small but highly skilled set of PCB manufacturers and SMT facilities that specialize in rapid prototyping. Although they are a little expensive, you will get the right support. Including validating your proto on a single board.?

2 年Sachin Naik Agree with most of the point but when you are trying to influence the people, i would suggest give them local vendor options also. It's not always required to have JLPCB as first choice of PCB manufacturing. For complex job definitely many parameters need to be taken care for selecting manufacturer, but 70% electronics products are easy to manufacture in India. There are many local vendors offering quality, timely delivery and price in same basket.
