From small saplings to the Great Green Wall, planting trees creates a desert oasis
Every March 12th is China's Arbor Day. As the saying goes, "The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, followed by now." This is a day that reminds us of the importance of environmental protection.
This festival originated in the last century when the famous forest scientist Ling Daoyang and others launched the "Afforestation Movement" to carry out extensive afforestation activities in the country and among the people to improve the current situation of low forest coverage.
In ancient China, the desert witnessed the pride of "the yellow sand wears the golden armor in a hundred battles, and the Loula will never be returned if it is not broken", and it bears the sorrow of "the people who have traveled thousands of miles in the Guangshen Mountain, and they are full of tears when they look at the Guangshen Mountain".
One of the most important manifestations of desertification in my country is land desertification. Desertification control and land afforestation are major measures to curb land degradation in northern my country and are national actions to deal with desertification.
Located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the seventh largest desert in China—the Kubuqi Desert (known as "Kujie Sand" in ancient times) was once one of the most severely desertified areas in China. It once caused the surrounding areas and even the capital Beijing to suffer from desertification.
"Kubqi" is Mongolian, which means the string on the bow, because it is under the Yellow River like a string hanging on the Yellow River, hence the name, and it looks like a yellow dragon lying in the north of the Ordos Plateau, across Inner Mongolia Three flags.
In the past 30 years, with the unremitting efforts of several generations of sand control personnel, today's Kubu qi Desert has undergone earth-shaking changes. At present, the vegetation coverage rate of the Kubu qi Desert has reached 53%, and the Kubu qi Desert, once known as "a basin of sand hanging over the capital", is almost destroyed.
According to data from the United Nations, the Kubu qi ecological restoration project has created a value of US$1.8 billion, providing valuable Chinese experience for global desertification control.
Today, this "yellow dragon" has not only been tamed and turned green under the application of technologies such as "water vapor method for tree planting", "sand barrier method", "licorice sand control method", and "photovoltaic sand control" It has become a cornucopia for local sand control enterprises and the masses.
The current Kubu qi Desert has formed an integrated ecological cycle industrial chain of "desert prevention and control-ecological restoration-industrial development-soil improvement" and established a mature and reproducible sand control system.
Among them, the successful exploration of photovoltaic desertification control is a highlight of the "Chinese experience" in Kubu qi desertification control.
Through photovoltaic sand control, the Kubu qi Desert has realized an integrated ecological cycle industrial chain of sand prevention and control, ecological restoration, industrial development, and soil improvement.
Photovoltaic power generation utilizes many desert and light resources, which provides the land with the effect of selling electricity and retaining water and is conducive to desert greening and the development of planting and breeding.
Photovoltaic sand control has developed into the 5.0 era, forming a systematic model with five elements as the core: "on-board power generation, under-board planting, inter-board breeding, sand control and soil improvement, and industrial poverty alleviation".
In addition, the large-scale application of photovoltaic power generation can also solve the water source problem for desert greening. The cost of photovoltaic power generation has dropped significantly, and it will become the most economical energy type in the world in the future.

Through the combination of photovoltaics and energy storage, it can fully meet the needs of large-scale water diversion and greening of deserts, and this process will not generate any carbon emissions.
"Photovoltaic power generation + desert greening" can bring huge social and ecological effects.
According to research by authoritative organizations, if 1% of the global desert area is used for photovoltaic power generation, it can meet human energy needs.
And if 70% of the desert area on the earth becomes an oasis, it can absorb all the carbon emissions produced by human activities. By then, all social and environmental problems caused by carbon emissions can be solved.
Through unremitting efforts, the control of the Kubu qi Desert has driven industrial development, improved the production and lived conditions of farmers and herders, and promoted poverty alleviation and prosperity.
The negative assets of the desert have become the green assets of regional economic development, and the yellow sand has turned into green water and green mountains, mountains of gold and silver, and more farmers and herders have shared the achievements of desert ecological improvement and green economic development.
We also need to realize that the development of low-carbon environmental protection and new energy is not something that can be achieved overnight, it requires our continuous efforts and investment.
In recent years, problems such as global climate change and environmental pollution have become increasingly serious, and we need to participate more actively in environmental protection.
We can start from the little things in our lives, plant trees with Sunpro on this Arbor Day, use solar energy, reduce energy waste, and create a sustainable future for all.
