From sleeping on the bus stands to become the 1st Transgender Judge, Joyita Mondal is a true Inspiration!

Transgenders are more often the worst treated people in the country. We get annoyed when they approach us bothering for money in public places. But have you ever thought why they become the symbol of hatred and nuisance and have tragic their stories are! This?Transgender women’s story?will showcase the gender discrimination transgenders have been facing for a long time especially in our country. She is non-other than the 1st Transgender Judge in the nation,?Joyita Mondal.

“There will be haters, there will be doubts, there will be non-believers, and there will be you, proving them wrong.”

Gender Discrimination?

We all know that India is a land of diversity in race, region, caste, mate, landform, flora and fauna and so on. But why these words don't apply to those who were born as Transgenders, though they were from the same country as all we are! Though they deserve equal rights as we do, they were treated like extraterrestrial objects by society.

Many of them accept the fact and become prostitutes and so on. But a few people fight for what they deserve as the citizens of one of the greatest?Nation?in the world. One such influential person struggling for the development of the Transgender community is Joyita Mondal. Born in a traditional Hindu family in Kolkata, West Bengal, this 29-year old woman faced a lot of discrimination even from her childhood.

“I’m the boy that was born as a girl, and has to prove to myself every day that I’m man enough for the world.”

She suffered the social norms and spent sleepless nights

She was named, “Joyonto” initially as she was born as a male. But her fate of being born as transgender, made her suffer for her identity in the society. Unable to sustain the verbal bullying and the norms imposed on her gender by the community, Jyothi dropped out of school after 10th Grade.

Joyita in 2009, left to Dinajpur leaving her family, saying her parents that she got a job there and never went back. She suffered the worst after leaving her family spending horrific sleepless nights on an empty stomach. Even the hotels refused to give her lodging and food even though she was ready to pay.

”Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community, a more empathetic society, and a better world for all of us.” - Caitlyn Jenner

Her contribution as a social worker

She then started working in an office for Rs.5000/- and used to socialize with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people. After a few years, she started an NGO, Nai Roshni for Dinajpur (New Light for Dinajpur) for the LGBT community and started fighting for their rights.

After the success of her NGO in Islampur (Uttar Dinajpur), she decided to expand her support to all the people irrespective of the community and irrespective of the odds she is up against. She along with the members of her NGO worked on different social issues which build her a strong rapport with the District Level Government.

“If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it.” - Elon Musk

With the respect and popularity she gained with her works for the welfare of the society, she was appointed as the 1st Transgender Judge at the Lok Adalat Civil Court in July 2017. She took charge of the social worker post in the 3-Judge Lok Adalat bench consisting of a judge, an advocate, and a social worker.

But this success didn’t make her deviate from her protest against gender discrimination. She will never stop her fight until she was satisfied, which is achieved on the day when transgenders become incorporated into mainstream society and live with dignity.

Conclusion

Joyita?Mondal’s?story portrays the fact that though the whole world is against you, your determination, passion, stubborn nature and the depth of your struggle will make you the most?successful person.
