From Skyler Badenoch, CEO: A Message About My Recent Visit to Haiti

Dear Hope for Haiti Family,

A little over a week ago, I had the opportunity to visit Haiti with Michael Gay, the Vice Chairman of Hope for Haiti's Board of Directors. Our week was incredibly inspiring and productive. Our visit with the team and seeing our programs in action served as reminders that, despite the challenges in Port-au-Prince, meaningful and positive work can still be accomplished in Haiti.

Here are some of the highlights:

Building New Homes: On Monday, I visited our partner community of Ravine Sable. Hope for Haiti is partnering with the locally-led organization Man Dodo Humanitarian Foundation, Inc. ( MAN DODO HUMANITARIAN FOUNDATION INC ) to construct five new homes, replacing those destroyed during the 2021 earthquake. The resilience and determination of this community are truly remarkable. The new homeowners expressed to me directly that this work will provide much-needed stability and hope.

Increasing Healthcare Access: On Tuesday, Michael and I visited Hope for Haiti's Infirmary St. Etienne, where our healthcare team has once again surpassed our yearly goal for patient consultations. For the third consecutive year, our team completed the fiscal year with over 100,000 medical consultations. This achievement is a testament to their hard work and dedication to providing essential healthcare services to those in need. We also visited a mobile clinic where our public health team was conducting screenings for breast and cervical cancer. This initiative is crucial in our efforts to improve women's health in Haiti and it was inspiring to see our team's commitment to early detection and prevention.

Delivering Medication: We visited our medication depot, which has been instrumental in storing and distributing $49 million worth of medication over the past 12 months. This facility ensures that vital medications reach the people who need them most. We use these medications at our infirmary, and at our mobile clinics, and we also donate medication to more than 60 other healthcare partners operating in Haiti.

Building New Classrooms & Computer Labs: On Wednesday, we traveled to Tête L'étang for the inauguration of a new school funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation ( W.K. Kellogg Foundation ). This educational facility also features an Endless ( Endless ) computer lab, providing a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. It was heartwarming to witness the excitement and joy of the students, teachers, parents, families, and the Hope for Haiti team as they celebrated this milestone.

Supporting Local Businesses: On our way home from the school inauguration, we visited Claudy Cajour, who received a $27,000 loan from Hope for Haiti in 2022 as part of a grant from Dalio Philanthropies to help grow his cassava bread business. Claudy is current on all of his loan repayments, and his business is thriving, despite the challenging business environment in Haiti. As we were leaving, Claudy offered us some samples of his cassava bread and they were delicious!

Thank you for your continued belief in the work that is still possible in Haiti.
