The story I’m about to tell you is one that has evolved over the past 13 years. In fact, my 13-year anniversary is coming in April. In sharing my story, I hope it’ll prompt you to ask yourself:?
What are the lessons my life has taught me so far? Where could I improve? How can I experience more joy and create the life I truly want??
Here’s one of the greatest lessons I have learned so far:?Don’t wait for the right time.?
When I moved to America in 2003, I had to create a life from basically nothing. For many of us, I think managing our lives and expectations around Covid-19 is a lot like how I felt all those years ago -- we’re faced with the monumental task of reinventing ourselves and our lives while mourning the loss of so much of what we previously took for granted.?
I grew up in Russia, and here I was in America, essentially?starting over. No immediate family. No friends. Just me.
As I was adjusting to living in the U.S., I also became a mother. It was then that I found myself?putting my needs on the back burner. Everyone else came first. If you’re a wife, mother or caretaker, I’m sure you identify. As women, we often find ourselves in the same situation, taking care of everyone but ourselves. Our bodies, minds and spirits always seem to come last.
My real breaking point came 10 years ago. I was literally sick and tired all the time. I was in the midst of opening a Russian language school that I founded with my friend. On an opening day, I was supposed to teach classes, I woke up with a fever and had to call my friend and tell her she needed to take my place.
That was the moment I knew I needed?to make a change. I realized that my constant sickness and fatigue was robbing me of the things I enjoyed and wanted to do most in my life. It was then that I understood that my lifestyle wasn’t serving me or those I wanted to help.?
Is there any part of my story so far that reminds you of similar circumstances you may be experiencing in your life? Are there areas where you’re focusing so much on others that you feel you have nothing left to give yourself?
When I finally made the decision to change, I read books, attended seminars and trainings — anything that I thought might help me grow.
I came to realize that one of the reasons I kept putting others’ needs ahead of mine was a story I kept telling myself: “I’m not good enough.” It was a story I’d had on replay for most of my life.?Those stories, usually formed in early childhood, stick with us. They shape who we are and what we do — or don’t do — every single day.
I decided I wanted to change the stories I told myself. I wanted to look into the mirror and see a happy, whole woman staring back at me — a woman who was confident and knew without a doubt she was good enough.
So I started by changing my mindset — reading, studying and learning from others. Then, I looked at my diet and asked myself, what shifts could I make in my eating habits to improve my health and energy levels? Before long, I noticed that making healthier choices and sticking to a specific supplement regimen made a huge difference in how I felt. The best part? I was no longer getting sick once or twice a month!?
In 2009, I became an independent distributor for Shaklee products that made such a difference for me. A few years later, I became a certified health and life coach.?

Then, I adopted new fitness habits. I became a runner, and eventually, a certified personal trainer. I began to see fitness as another way to help my body help me. I began to understand that if I wanted energy and vitality, I could achieve it by moving my body in specific ways. In fact, just this morning, I was dragging a little before my 7 am strength and cardio class. Afterwards, I felt great! I was full of energy and back to feeling more like myself.
Here’s another pivotal experience in my life I want to share with you: Running my first marathon. When I signed up, it wasn’t so much that I wanted to run a marathon. It was the challenge of it. I knew if I could run 26.2 miles, I could do anything — have the money I wanted, the business I desired, the relationship I deserved.?
Running a marathon to the end was my personal challenge. What’s yours? Have you conquered it already, or is it an experience you have yet to have?
What I discovered from all of this is that I have the power to generate energy, happiness, health and power in my life. I can create anything I want. If I want to love and help the world, I can only do that by loving myself first. And the greatest gift of love I can give to myself is taking care of myself.
I say all of this to implore you,?don’t wait for the right time. I’ve discovered that there really never is a perfect right time.?If you feel in your gut that you need to make a change, the time is now. To borrow a phrase from Nike, just do it.
In 2020, in the mist of COVID-19 I learned another powerful lesson and life skill, and that is to ask for help. Great work is rarely done by one person. Figure out how you can hire the help you need, wherever you’re struggling in life, and?partner with someone to make the changes you need and want to make.
In my business, I learned I needed to ask for assistance in several areas, and in return, I’ve saved time, money and tons of emotional stress.?What do you need help with?
If you’re on your own personal wellness journey, reach out and ask for help. I promise, it’s so much easier when you have someone walking alongside you, helping to guide you every step of the way.
So I share my story with you to pass on a few lessons I have learned in my own life in the hopes that they might help and inspire you to create the systems and support you need to feel better, especially in these stressful times.
Personally, I have found that managing my stress through mindset and meditation, feeding my body right and moving my body in the right way, and managing myself through planning and organization has changed everything for the better.?
I have learnt the importance of habits.?By changing your habits you can change your life. For a long lasting transformation. That is why I specialize in a habit change in mindset, nutrition, and fitness to help you re-energize your body and life!?
You can do the same thing. It isn’t hard. Maybe you just need a little help. Don’t be afraid to ask for it.
Let’s use stressful times to make big changes in our lives so when the good times return, they are truly golden.
Thank you for holding space to allow me to share my story with you.?
Remember, I did it. You can do it too! To feel strong, balanced, energized! It's worth your health! It's worth your life! It's worth all around!
