Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to throw in the towel on your business? I recently experienced one of those moments, and I want to share how I navigated it. Because this happens to everyone! But as ambitious business owners, learning how to navigate these moments is crucial to success.
It hit me after a networking event I'd organized. Despite some recent wins—securing a major sponsorship, booking a TV star as our keynote speaker for Success Becomes Me—the event's attendance was half of what I'd hoped for. I found myself questioning everything. Was it time to give up on my nonprofit? Should I cancel the upcoming conference?
But here's the thing: These moments often arise when our sky-high expectations don't align with reality. As ambitious individuals, we set the bar incredibly high. We want everything done yesterday. Sound familiar?
So how do we push through these moments and realign with our vision? Here's what worked for me:
1. Seek perspective from the right people
Surround yourself with individuals who understand your ambition and vision. Don't turn to those living a 9-to-5 life for advice on your entrepreneurial journey. Instead, connect with trusted advisors who can remind you of your capabilities and purpose.
2. Immerse yourself in supportive environments
Put yourself in spaces filled with other ambitious individuals. Whether it's a mastermind group or a networking event, being around like-minded people can reignite your passion and remind you why you started.

3. Practice self-care
When you're not at your best, your business can't thrive. Take time to meditate, affirm your goals, or simply change your scenery. Remember, if you're not well, nothing else in your business can be.
A personal anecdote
Last year, almost to the day, my body stopped processing food properly due to stress and overwork. I lost a significant amount of weight in just six weeks. It was a stark reminder that pushing ourselves to the brink isn't sustainable or productive.
4. Reassess, don't quit
Often, what feels like a moment to quit is actually a moment to reassess. Look at the gap between your ambitions and your current reality. Can you adjust your expectations? Or do you need to change your approach?
Remember: Your passion and the community around you will carry you through these challenging days.
When you feel like quitting, pause and ask yourself:
In those moments of doubt, remember why you started. Reconnect with the fire in your soul. Your ambition isn't just a fleeting emotion — it's the core of who you are as an entrepreneur.
