From Service to Success

My favorite chapter of Beyond the Thin Blue Line is Chapter 7, entitled Service to Success. I had the opportunity to meet and interview four incredible former officers/deputies and tell their stories about transitioning from a life of service to success in the private sector. While I hope you will check out the book to read their full stories, here is a quick overview of each of these #Heroes!

Brian K. Tuskan ?? spent over 12 years in law enforcement, serving in various positions, including SWAT, criminal investigations, narcotics, and many others with the Honolulu Police Department and the Redmond Police Department. His fantastic work ethic and skills in investigations soon got him noticed by the team at 微软 , who hired him for a corporate investigator position in 2000. Over his 22-year tenure with the company, he advanced to the position of Chief Security Officer. Brian now serves as the Vice President and Chief Security Officer for ServiceNow . Brian has never forgotten his brothers and sister in law enforcement. He founded COP TO CORPORATE - Blue to Business , a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support to other LEOs looking to transition to the private sector.

Teresa M. Fitzgerald served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Livingston Sheriff's Office and was one of only two women in the entire department at the time of her hiring. Teresa's passion and determination were immediately apparent to all. Within her first two years in the profession, Teresa was named her department's Deputy of the Year for pulling an unconscious driver out of a burning vehicle, saving his life, and for making the agency's largest narcotics bust that year. Teresa left law enforcement in 2005 to enter the world of finance, where she would soon secure executive-level roles with Fortune 500 companies. In 2023, Teresa started her own financial advising company, Affinity Planning Partners , which helps people around America reach their financial goals, including many law enforcement officers and their families.

Steven Meincke served nearly three decades in the law enforcement profession with the United States Capitol Police and Arlington County Police Department . Steven worked in various diverse roles including Patrol, Motors, Special Operation Section, and more. Rising through the ranks from Police Officer to Lieutenant, his career highlights his excellent performance and sense of duty. Steven left law enforcement after 28 years to become the Corporate Security Manager for 雀巢 . From serving as a Lieutenant just outside the Nation's Capitol to overseeing the security operations for one of the world's largest food and beverage corporations, Steven exemplifies the unlimited potential of our law enforcement officers.

Matt Mancini and I served alongside each other at the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office . Matt worked as a Patrol Deputy, School Resource Officer, and as a Background Investigator/Recruiter. I had the honor of supervising Matt during our time in Recruiting/Backgrounds and found him to be an incredible investigator, deputy, and person. Matt left law enforcement last year for a Management Analyst role with LMI, working on critical projects with the Federal Government. Matt’s desire to give back to his brothers and sisters in blue brought him to my team at Recruiting Heroes LLC , where he works part-time as a Recruiter, working to find amazing careers for America’s Veterans and Law Enforcement Officers. With his help, Recruiting Heroes has continued its incredible trajectory.

In Beyond the Thin Blue Line, I go into much greater detail about these four incredible Heroes, their transition to successful careers in the private sector, and their words of advice for other LEOs looking to find their purpose in life beyond the badge. While I am genuinely proud of every chapter of my book, From Service to Success will always be my favorite.
