From Security to Surfing
Welcome to Mostly, the weekly list of top links for women who are living their best life in leadership (most of the time!).
Each week, look forward to a carefully chosen collection of stories from across the web to inspire, motivate and lift your week. Because yes, there are fewer of us than there should be, but that doesn't mean those who are leading aren't smashing it!
This week enjoy previews with the links! Please tell me if this is better or worse.
Be inspired by women's health as HerMD raises ANOTHER $18M. Meet the Queen of Security Window Snyder, the Queen of Casting, Ava DuVernay and the Queen of Retail, Angela Ahrendts. Feel your heart swell for the young women finding freedom amongst the Moroccan waves. It's an F-fest with a feminist financial podcast with too many good episodes to choose from and a documentary about a feminist in the least likely of places. Julia Boorstin talks to Sheryl Sandberg. Plus, a TEDx that speaks to the little girl inside us all and the gorgeous Harper's Bazaar provide us with a gorgeous list of gorgeous places to sit and feel gorgeous.
Have a great week!
HerMD is not only a healthcare service provider. They created a University to bridge the skills gap and create more female-friendly MDs.
I couldn't decide which of these episodes you might enjoy; "Do I need a financial advisor?", "The hidden cost of alcohol", or "Being an uncontrollable woman"? You can choose and let me know.
Window Snyder is a former Chief Security Officer at Square, Fastly and Mozilla. She previously spent five years at Apple, responsible for security and privacy strategy and features for OS X and iOS. Other roles include Chief Software Security Officer at Intel, Chief Security Something-or-Other at Mozilla and a founder at Matasano. Window Snyder is a Security Queen!
I really enjoyed this window into the lives and concerns of young women in Morrocco. Fascinating and inspiring. Oh, to be young, brave and by the sea.
Ava DuVernay is best known as an actor that explores the experiences of African Americans, including Jim Crow-era racism, the civil rights movement, racial inequities of mass incarceration, and the history of hip-hop music. She is also the founder of the casting database Array Crew which this week joined forces with Impact to become the largest hiring network for the entertainment industry.

I don't really understand how Fantasy Football League works, but I daydream about a Fantasy Boardroom League where we collect our favourite C-Suite legends. In which case, I'd be top of the board with the appointment of Angela Ahrendts to the Kardashian empire.
The film follows a classroom of male prisoners as they wrestle with vulnerability and the confines of masculine norms through the lens of theorists such as?bell hooks. Wow, just...
And if hanging out in a male prison feels too stressful, welcome to the great reset. Harper's Bazaar lists the best wellness retreats in Europe for rebooting, resetting or just plain old relaxing.
Did I tell you about the time I met Julia Boostin? She signed a copy of her book for me, and I gurgled at her. It was not my finest moment. She wrote this article about Sheryl Sandberg and LeanIn.org launching the Lean In Girls initiative.
And finally, a shout out to the incredible Claire Thomas for all she does in her Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer role, but more selfishly, for recommending I watch Reshma Saujani's TEDx "Teach girls bravery, not perfection". As useful for those of us in our 40s as it is for every little girl.
P.S. I am looking for introductions to corporate women's networks that might like to have me as a free speaker. It's part of a bigger project I am researching. If this is you, or you could help me out, you know where I am. Thanks in advance. Lx
