From Secretary to CEO!

From Secretary to CEO!

I graduated from university in 1986, at the age of 20! I bagged an “honourable” 3rd Class Degree in Sociology from a 1st Class University! I did the mandatory National Youth Service in the right after. I then proceeded to attend the most prestigious Secretarial Institution in Nigeria at the time, where I bagged a Distinction - Shorthand 120 w.p.m./Typewriting 60 w.p.m.

I commenced my 1st job as one of the several Secretaries to a Joint Venture Board. i continued as Secretary to one of the Board Members after the Board was done with their project - those were the best 5 years of my Career Life!

I switched roles to become HR Assistant after about 5 years. I rose through various ranks of increasing responsibility in the organisation, including becoming the:

  • 1st Integrated Travel Center Coordinator
  • 1st Female Aviation Supervisor in our offshore location (supervising an all-men team)
  • 1st Female Logistics Superintendent covering Lagos, Warri, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Escravos (supervising an all-men team)

I retired in 2017 after ~30 years of meritorious service. I retired from a Career, and refired into my Calling as a “Borderless” Internationally recognized and acclaimed Coach, Mentor, Speaker, Trainer and Teacher.

I serve as Director on a couple of Boards. I am an Executive Director of the John Maxwell Team. I am CEO of my organisation. Above all, I am CEO of my Life, and the Master of my Destiny!

I say all these, not to impress you, but to impress upon you that:

  1. A Set Back in life can be a Set Up for. a Come Back.
  2. Whatever your hand finds to do, Do it with all of your might.
  3. Know your Gifting and Develop Skills in your Area of Giftedness.
  4. Be Good at What you Do, and Be Great at Who you Are.
  5. Strive to Add Value, with Excellence.
  6. If you’re Valuable, you’ll be Visible.
  7. Be the Best Version of You!
  8. Time in Position (TIP) does not translate to Value in Position (VIP).
  9. While waiting for the Promotion, Be the Best Version of you demonstrating capability to work at the next level.
  10. Get out of your Comfort Zone but Remain your Strength Zone.
  11. Be Willing to Take Risks.
  12. Don’t just Go through life. Grow through life!
  13. The Female Gender is no limitation.
  14. There is no graduation from the “School of Hard Knocks” called LIFE!
  15. Wherever you are placed, you are in the correct curriculum for your Growth. Bloom where you are planted!
  16. You cannot have Limited Potential. You can only have a Limited Mindset!
  17. Emotional Intelligence is key! You can be a 1st Class Graduate and a “Zero-Class” or "No-Class" Person!
  18. Build Relationships as you go along. - #PeopleMatter
  19. Equip Yourself - Invest in you, by yourself. Don’t wait for your company to train you.
  20. Maintain a Fantastic Attitude
  21. Develop your Leadership Skills, because Everything Rises & Falls on Leader
  22. Positional Leadership is the lowest level of Leadership. Leadership is more than Position or Title. Leadership is Influence, Nothing More, Nothing Less!

This is my Story, and I am sticking to it! If I Can, So Can You. And, Yes, You Can!
