From Script to Heart: How Grandma Taew Gave Everything to Her Role
Grandma Taew (Usha Seamkhum) was in the middle of a traditional Thai dance class at her local fitness center when a surprising call came in, an audition for a film extra role. That opportunity turned into her big break, leading to spots in ads and music videos.
But in 2022, everything changed when she got an invite to audition for How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
The production had seen hundreds of auditions but hadn’t found the perfect Amah. At first, Grandma Taew was nervous—worried she’d forget her lines and hold everyone up. But the How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies team had her back, giving her the confidence she needed to say yes. In the end, she landed the role of Amah.
“Grandma Taew calls herself an amateur, but I see the way she puts her heart into making every scene better than the last. That kind of dedication is what being a pro is all about,” said Sanya Kunakorn, who plays Kiang, Amah’s oldest son.
She fully committed to the role, sparing no effort. “Copying the whole script by hand—every line went through my eyes and my hands as I wrote. That’s how it all stuck. Even lying down to sleep, the lines kept flowing through my mind, almost making it impossible to fall asleep.”
Her commitment didn’t stop at memorizing lines. She took it a step further and shaved her head four times for the role. “I went for it and shaved it,” she said, touching her bare scalp. “If it’s for the character, hair can wait. It’s not like it’s gone forever.”
