From a scratch to a master in public speaking (part 2)

From a scratch to a master in public speaking (part 2)

I am excited to share with you some more thoughts on how to present and speak like a master. After the first part of the introduction, it is time to talk about specific tools you can use at the beginning of your presentation.

Here are some examples that we can use to make an even better expression to the audience.

Before every speech think about the story which is connected to the topic. It may be the great opening part and interest the public. We all love stories and at the start, there are very useful. Use stories a lot, even if there are not as funny as it seems to be for the first time, people will love it. Then try to implement many details and personal inserts to be even more authentic. Looking at the best in this topic they always start with a story strictly connected to the subject. Ted Talks' speeches are the best example of this.

Another opportunity to start your speech is a rhetorical question. Immediately the audience is introduced to your topic and their attention is an ultimate asset. They feel like the part of the show so they are more willing to stay in focus and continue to the following minutes of speech. A question that starts from "Have you ever...", or "Who of you.." are recognized as the most powerful to start a speech. There is one more special word that stimulates us to think even more profound: It starts with “imagine”: "Imagine a big explosion as you climb through 3,000 ft. Imagine a plane full of smoke. Imagine an engine going clack, clack. It sounds scary." Believe me, there are times when leading your audience to use their imaginations is the best bet. You can advise them to do this by using the commands "imagine," "think of" or "picture this."

The last but not least great opportunity to start with a hook in your speech is to surprise all of them. It could be a joke, about them or you, about common sense, quote an influential person, act of incite curiosity or just standing for a couple of seconds in silence. The last one I like a lot. About silence and pauses it will be a separate article later on.

So, you have a wide set of opportunities to start your presentation. Remember, there is not a perfect one, everything depends on you and your creativity Be authentic and try to interest them in the first look. After hearing this kind of statement, most people will want to listen to your entire talk, if not out of genuine interest, then at least to appease their wonder.

In the next part, I will consider which tools we can use in the main part of the speech.
