Amidst enchantment and debates, 13 striking sculptures by Manolo Valdés are now on show in Piazza San Marco in Venice on occasion of the Biennale.

The sculptures are bronze representations of one of Valdés' favourite themes: the Reina Mariana figures, whose Limoges porcelain version is now available at Weng Contemporary. These colourful statuettes are ideal artworks for people wishing to start collecting this renowned artist's pieces.

Las Meninas

The theme of the Reina Mariana was first explored by the artist when he painted representations of Las Meninas by the Spanish master Velázquez, which he would admire in Museo del Prado in Madrid.

From the beginning of his works in art school until now, Valdés has never ceased to re-imagine this charming feminine figure in different styles and mediums.

Valdés’ decors for Las Meninas porcelain sculptures draw inspiration from a broad range of artists, such as Joan Miró, Willem De Kooning, Sonia Delaunay, Fernand Léger, and Roy Lichtenstein.
