From Ron’s Bookshelf
SGR’s 10 in 10 Note – May 8, 2024
By Alexandra Hudson
I talk about civility a lot these days. I think because I miss it so much. Generations of Americans have never known a time when people and politicians could talk about issues without vilifying those on the other side. They came up being shown that this is how society is supposed to function or, in reality, should fall into dysfunction.?
This has led to a culture that sees things in black and white. It's tragic because so much of our commonality lies in the nuances, which can easily disappear in a world seen through the prism of black and white.?
So, when I came across this book, I added it to Ron’s Bookshelf . At a time when so many are seeking the return of national civility (and for younger generations—perhaps an introduction to it), this book gives us some enlightening insight into how we might do?this. And it starts within each of us.

That said, they all agree that it comes with “colossal opportunities.”
On this episode of The Insightful Leader: You can’t always control what happens at work. But reframing setbacks, and instituting some serious calendar discipline, can go a long way toward reducing stress.
Local governments are facing levels of political negativity and ideological polarization not foreseen by past scholars or adequately described in the public administration curricula taught at colleges and universities.?An excellent historical place to initiate our discussion is with Woodrow Wilson, a prominent leader in promoting the council-manager form of government and an influential scholar who some consider to be a founder of public administration in the United States.
