Jason Redman ’s journey is one of transformation, resilience, and redemption—a narrative that goes beyond the stereotypical image of a Navy SEAL. On a recent episode of The Sidney Gordon Podcast, Jason opened up about the challenges he faced during his time in the military, and how those experiences shaped him into the leader and person he is today. Sidney Gordon, the host, and CEO of Core Medical Group, who has had the privilege of knowing Jason personally and professionally, facilitated a conversation that was as raw as it was inspiring.

Jason’s story began at rock bottom, a place he never imagined he would find himself, especially as a Navy SEAL, a role synonymous with perfection, discipline, and unyielding strength. Yet, it was during Ranger School, a point where he felt stripped of his confidence and credibility, that he had to rebuild himself from the ground up. This period was not just a test of his physical endurance but also of his mental fortitude.

"I had to go through some hard moments," Jason reflected, "but thankfully, I was able to come back to the SEAL teams, rebuild my credibility as a leader, and leave very respected when I finally exited the community after a combat deployment, being wounded, and everything that came with it."

Sidney, who has always admired the toughness and determination of military personnel, shared his own observations from an event where he was surrounded by some of Jason’s current and former peers. The impact Jason had on them was palpable. Sidney recalled how two men, who had served with Jason, pointed him out across the room and said, "That dude was not anything like he is now back then. By the time he was done in the military, he was held in such high regard, but there were some points there where it was scary. He's a success story." This comment struck Sidney, not just because of its sincerity, but because it highlighted a truth about human nature—

Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone has the courage to own up to them and work toward redemption.

Jason’s wife, who was present during the conversation, offered a poignant insight into this period of their lives. "He was hard enough on himself," she said, "he was his own worst enemy at that time." She described how she chose to support him unconditionally, whether he decided to leave the military or stay in. For her, it was about being the stable force in their family, holding down the house, and standing by Jason regardless of what happened. It was not an easy path, as it took several years for Jason to fully come to terms with the mistakes he had made. "It wasn't like overnight that the light switch went off," she explained. "Eventually, he was like, this was really messed up, but it was one of the best things that ever happened to me."

Jason appreciated his wife’s steadfast support, acknowledging that the journey to redemption was a gradual process. He shared how his book, often misconceived as a chest-pounding SEAL memoir, was instead a story of failure, growth, and redemption. "A lot of people who read that book or want to give me shit about the book, know, military members, they think I wrote a SEAL book, talking about how great I was and how hard Bud's was. And I'm like, no, it's actually a book about failure and growing up." He continued, "It's never too late to fix yourself, to redeem yourself. If you look at yourself in the mirror and you've made a mistake, maybe you messed up your marriage or your business or you fucked up. I'm living proof that you can come back from almost anything."

Sidney, who deeply resonated with Jason’s message, took the opportunity to connect it with the mission of Core Medical Group. He asked Jason for a success story from the Core Medical community, which opened up a broader discussion about the transformative power of health and wellness. Jason did not hesitate to share a remarkable story of one of their clients, a woman whose journey paralleled his own in many ways. "Her before and after pictures are absolutely stunning," Jason said, clearly proud of her accomplishments. He remembered a moment from the Roger Up event, where he told her he could help her lose 25 pounds. "But I'm brutally honest like that," Jason added, "and I tell people that I feel like Core can help."

The client’s success went beyond just weight loss. She had faced a host of health challenges, including high cholesterol, weight gain, and a severe lack of energy, coupled with debilitating hot flashes. Yet, through her commitment and the support of Core Medical Group, she not only lost 40 pounds but also saw her cholesterol levels improve and her energy return. "The hot flashes were gone, the energy level was better, and the weight's great, but it was the whole package," she said, emphasizing that Core Medical’s approach addressed her overall well-being, not just one aspect of it.

Jason’s pride in her transformation was evident, but so was his recognition of the broader impact Core Medical Group was having on people's lives. "It's not only me," she continued, "since then, my hairdresser, who I've known for 15 years, and other friends have also joined Core Medical Group and have seen similar results. I’m not a one-off."

Sidney, always the supportive host, expressed his deep admiration for Jason’s work and the impact he has had, not just on the military community, but on everyone he touches.

"You are an amazing person and you are the conduit that kind of brings all of us misfits together," Sidney told Jason, a sentiment that was echoed by many in the room.

Sidney reflected on the importance of seeing the good in people, a trait he credited Jason with having in spades. "You always see the good in somebody," Sidney said, recounting moments when he was ready to cut and run from a situation, only for Jason to encourage giving the person another chance.

This ability to see potential in others, even when they cannot see it in themselves, is a hallmark of great leadership—a quality that Jason has honed through his own life experiences. Sidney, who also understands the importance of a strong support system, especially in the face of adversity, related Jason's leadership qualities to his own life. He mentioned how he relies heavily on his wife for support, trusting her to manage their household while he focuses on his work. "Try telling other men that," Sidney joked, "they look at me like, wait, are you nuts? But that support team is great, and that’s what we had."

The conversation between Sidney and Jason is a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, redemption, and the support systems that allow us to rebuild ourselves after failure. Jason’s story is not just one of personal triumph but also of the power of community, of people coming together to lift each other up. Sidney’s admiration for Jason’s journey, his commitment to Core Medical Group, and his ability to lead with compassion and understanding is evident in every word they exchanged.

For those who may feel lost or that they have hit rock bottom, Jason’s story serves as a beacon of hope. It’s a testament to the idea that no matter how far you fall, there is always a way back up. It may not be easy, and it may take time, but with the right support and the willingness to face your mistakes head-on, anything is possible.
