Last year, when Web3 and AR/VR were the buzzwords everywhere, my limited perspective convinced me that we are still a few economic and environmental crises away from going full Ready Player One. However, toward the end of 2022, when my brother sent me a link for ChatGPT, it didn't take me a while to get on the bandwagon of Open AI and ChatGPT.

I still remember one of my first few searches, I asked ChatGPT to write a poem about life, and I swear the verses that I got were so beautiful and meaningful that it would take me at least two lifetimes to come up with something that creative and impactful. That moment was wonderful and frightening at the same time.

This bot is trained to generate human-like text in a conversational context. To describe it in the best way possible, it is an evolved version of Apple Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. It can do text summarization, language translation, answer questions, and can even write articles for you.

It is only factually accurate some of the time, but it is not far from being our go to place to search anything. ChatGPT is so good at what it does because it is based on OpenAI's language model GPT-3.?

GPT-3 is an AI model trained to generate human language using a neural network with 175 billion parameters to understand the structure and patterns of human language. Given any text prompt like a phrase or a sentence, GPT-3 returns a text completion in natural language.

Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, recently gave a glimpse into the future during a recent interview. He shared an example of a rural Indian farmer who needed to access a government program in a language he didn't understand. The farmer used a bot powered by GPT-3 to not only translate the information but to complete the entire process for him. This demonstrates the potential for AI technology.

AI can make many things great. With AI-based automation, customer service chatbots can become smarter and can handle a wide range of tasks by resolving complex issues.

The healthcare industry can automate processes such as medical coding and claims processing, it can even assist in diagnosis. The banking and finance sector can automate fraud detection, risk assessment, and compliance monitoring. The manufacturing sector can use predictive maintenance, quality control, and resource allocation to optimize the process supply chain.

The benefits can really change the world. It can further streamline industries, make us humans more efficient, takes away tasks we don’t enjoy, and?even manage our life for us. The question is, do we really know how to make the best out of tech like this for everyone?

How Chat GPT And Other Generative AI Can Be A Bane

During a recent interview Sam Altman, CEO of Open AI? was asked about the best and the worst-case scenario of artificial intelligence. His words do not paint the brightest picture of the future.?

His answer for the best-case scenario was? "I think the best case is so unbelievably good that it's hard for me to even imagine," he said.

He added: "I can sort of imagine what it's like when we have just, like, unbelievable abundance and systems that can help us resolve deadlocks and improve all aspects of reality and let us all live our best lives. But I can't quite. I think the good case is just so unbelievably good that you sound like a really crazy person to start talking about it."

His thoughts on the worst-case scenario paint a picture that we have seen in multiple science fiction.

"The bad case — and I think this is important to say — is, like, lights out for all of us," Altman said. "I'm more worried about an accidental misuse case in the short term."

He added: "So I think it's like impossible to overstate the importance of AI safety and alignment work. I would like to see much, much more happening."

In a time where we humans already spend most of our senses absorbing technology through listening, watching, and engaging than we spent with other humans, I am unsure of what the consequences would be if we made the technology even smarter.?

I don’t how convincing Chat Gpt-3 is right now as it is just a very advanced tool that can identify statistical regularities in text and make a vast number of correlations to offer plausible responses. It is great at creating an illusion that it understands the material and us and is also far away from being “sentient”. Nevertheless, one thing is for sure, it has figured out how to be diplomatic, crafty, and biased like us humans.
