From Reflection to Action – Journey for Equity

As we observe Juneteenth, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words remind us that justice represents an ongoing journey toward true equity. Juneteenth is an occasion to consider that journey, a day to reflect on the past and commit to actionable change in the future. On this day in 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned of their freedom, an event that altered the fabric of our nation, and the commencement of a new journey.

We recognize that our strengths come from our diverse backgrounds and perspectives. ?Statements, symbols, and celebrations are important. What is even more important is that we press on in the journey and incorporate these sentiments into our day-to-day operations and engagements.

State Street has consistently been an innovator by fostering a culture of firsts. This same innovative spirit can be applied to achieve racial equity. For example, as we mark the one-year anniversary of our Civil Rights Audit, we are very proud to be investing in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and companies, and directly addressing issues created by the racial wealth gap through our $100 million commitment into Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs).? We are systematically increasing spend with and building the capabilities of our diverse suppliers and funding affordable housing projects. Commitments like these reflect our path on this journey.
